Mike Edler wasn't the only one playing with paint

We sprayed 2 test sections, one with PPG, one with Sikkens. Same time, same conditions, etc.
The Sikkens looked like it was "finished" after just laying down the base coat. PPG definitely looked like it needed more work/clear.
The paint tech has been doing this work for 30+ years, back when base/clear wasn't even legit and everything was single stage. He recently sold his own business and now works for us.
The PPG color match according to the Paint code on the body wasn't even close to the OEM paint either.
I'm no "know all god" of paint info. I'm only sharing my own experiences. Also, as most people should know, to an extent paint is only as good as the person applying it, and the conditions its applied in.
Fred,
Its an Erebruni kit. Its not a 323i either, its a 316 with a carb'd m10.

Care to elaborate on the avoidance of PPG? I'm not in the paint industry, but I was thinking they were going to be in my DS respray budget, since the next step up sounded like DuPont, and it was a pretty large jump.
If PPG has fallen from where they were in the industry ~10 years ago, I'd need to hear it, I was comfortable shooting & spending $$$ it cost then, but if it's changed - spill it, man.
Looks sharp, BTW.Leave a comment:

Hmm, that came off the wrong way. ;)
I simply meant the variation in paint costs can be huge. If I'd painted with PPG, it would have been less than the Sikkens paint.
I didn't strip the car to a bare chassis like Jordan did, and I didn't do the engine bay/trunk/interior... No need.Leave a comment:

Mine was just a refresher paint job. I had some pealing, door dings and extreme fading to take care of.. Delphin is terrible like that. Mine is no where near a show car, but I think it looks pretty damn good for the cost and it should last many years to come with care.Leave a comment:

<- Sikkens
My base/clear alone cost more than your whole paint job. Thats at wholesale with half of it "demo'd" by the rep.
Used to use PPG, but no longer.Leave a comment:

I actually think that tint looks pretty badass. My montrealblau looks purple under some light as well (mostly tungsten).Leave a comment:
