I dig your style. Don't listen to negative shit from guys like ben Careful, and don't let his "girlfriend" fool ya either... he's a Garage Queen. Don't let it bug you that your car is a work in progress. Maybe Ben can just go and buy a car that is already fixed up from someone else but to me your the true enthusiast. Your cars may need work but your into doing it.Comment

thanks dude. yeah it is a work in progress, but it is a much better platform than that other POS i have the title for.Mike

dude, props to you man. i have a 4dr auto eta; sure it's not sought after, but it's mine and i have plans too. can't wait to see what gets done to her, treat her right ;)Comment

everyone has different tastes, and not everyone can have a showroom ready E30 right off of the bat.
i will treat her right. well kinda
lol
good luck with your car too.Comment

Nice. I think that was actually pretty damn creative of you. Made me smile.
Are you free for dinner soon? ;)
Actually, if fixing up an E30 is what defines a true enthusiast, consider me guilty. First time I owned my S50 car I was fixing it up slowly...then I did the same to a '90 325iS which I sold to a buddy last year. Now I own an iX which I (with the help of my girlfriend) have been slowly pouring money into to get it back to 100%.Originally posted by FanzottiMaybe Ben can just go and buy a car that is already fixed up from someone else but to me your the true enthusiast.
No, I fully advocate the "fixer-upper". Sometimes, though, you've gotta realize when a car is too far gone to put any work/money into and just let it fall. My 325e is like that; just not worth fixing at this point. Drive it 'till the wheels come off, but save your energy and money for a real project. Find yourself a car that's a good base to start with and get to work fixing it.
Aside from his usually inane comments, MikeE30325i just doesn't seem to realize that it makes more sense to start with a solid base of a car rather than with a ratty one.

in all seriousness right now, what is wrong with my black car?
besides the paint, because that is already a problem i know of.
but there is NO exterior damage, save two small dents on the hood, and there is absolutely NO rust.
what is a better starter off car than that?Comment

A plastic bumper car with a straight body. 99% of the people on this forum either wish they had the front & rear valances of the plastic bumper cars, or they convert to them.
Plastic bumper cars with straight bodies are easy to find in "needs-some-lovin'" condition these days.

Why does your "girlfriend" need a date?
I agree. To tell you the truth I wouldn't use half of the car's on this website as a base. I just don't get why everyone doesn't just go and buy a nice well maintained 89 325is preferably black on black like mine and start from there. Truth is most people on this site can't afford to start from there. I would never take Mike's car and use it as a base, too much work, but I respect that he's willing to do it. Would he be better off with a better car, yes. Can he afford a better car, no. Truth is this is the only car he's able to afford and he's not a retard cause he's gonna do what any young car freak is gonna do: Drink beer, Smoke weed, fix car.Actually, if fixing up an E30 is what defines a true enthusiast, consider me guilty. At one time these cars we're not worth restoring:http://www.ferraris-online.com/Articles/SCM_0210.shtml Look at them now. Mike do what your doing and someday you'll get where your trying to get. Someday those beaters and your skills will be worth your effort now.
There you go Ben, I'm burying the hatchett.
Mike get a better car or fix yours up.Last edited by Fanzotti; 05-21-2007, 02:34 PM.Comment

Frankly, just about anyone with a minimum wage job can afford a good "base" car to start with. I was making minimum wage when I bought the S50 car the first time (when it was bone stock) for $4,000. It's doable.Truth is most people on this site can't afford to start from there. I would never take Mike's car and use it as a base, too much work, but I respect that he's willing to do it. As far as drinking beer and smoking weed, if that's where he wants to spend his cash, so be it. I'd rather pour mine into my car, and that was what I did until I had enough money to drink a beer and put money into the car. Never did the weed thing.

Thats just silly, you would just incorporate the displacement into the name. E30 325e + S52 = 332i... 325is + S38B36 = 336is, and so on. I guess you could throw the "s" on the end too if you had the is spoilers and shit... Worthless, but some people might like it. We all call M30 swapped E30s 335s, so why not do it for an e to i swap too?So if you put a S52 in a e30 then its an m3?
I don't know why people always say that plastic bumpered cars are better than metal bumpered cars... If (when) I build another E30, I'd start with a metal bumper car because they are lighter and have a lot more room for bigger rear tires! Plus they are generally dirt cheap because people assume that plastics are betterA plastic bumper car with a straight body. 99% of the people on this forum either wish they had the front & rear valances of the plastic bumper cars, or they convert to them.

i am going to be picking up plastic bumper swap stuff today.
but i dont wanna go out and find one of these cars. i am going to work with what i have.
oh and i could go out and get a loan and buy a very nice, almost perfect 91 325is and start from there. but to me that is not what i think matters. i would rather take a regular run of the mill E30, and turn it into something fantastic. because at the end of the night, something like that is what makes me happy. and that is the bottom line for me when it comes to cars. the car can be hideous, but if it makes me happy putting my time and my money into it, then that is what i am going to do.Comment

What you can afford is directly related to what else you have to pay for.
I don't get why people would waste their time swapping plastics? I thought Eurospeed was nut's when he took all that time to do it? Especially on an E? But that cat said he likes the higher arches and the rear tails so in that way it made sense to me.
On the other hand I have what I consider to be the best 325 ever made: 89 325is black on black ='s Plastic bumpers, the good lights, NO AIRBAG FTMFW!!! Also my color is a little unique, 89 Schwarz. Why you ask? Some 89 schwarz cars came from the factory with Diamantenschwarz bumpers which makes it somewhat of production oddity.
Now My car's been in my family since around 91. A year ago the body was beat. I spent 100's of hours re-doing it. Why? The car wasn't worth it. I coulda just bought one in better condition. Truth is that car was mine and if I was fixing one up that was it...and I was looking for a challenge more than a nice 325.
I say we help him out, I say we pimp his ride. Just based on his first ride he seem's like he could use a part or two. I say we send him old parts that we have laying around that he could use. Let's take him out of the worst car category. Anyone interested?Last edited by Fanzotti; 05-21-2007, 03:01 PM.Comment
