e30 inspection done! Need advice on next move!

Okay, since I'm not an e30 guru, I need your guys' input. The current asking price on this car is $3750, and it's rust free, in pretty decent condition! Teaguer was nice enough to go check it out, and here's what he learned - what would you pay? How would I go about fixing the leaks and the OBC?

Ok here are the pics , tried to cover all of the angles .

The ft bumper, left bmpr trim , both side grills and hood have been replaced .
All the stuff appears to be OE as well .

So the ft bumper, hood, rf fender, rf door and rr door have all been repainted .
The paintwork is top nothc as is the bodywork on the two doors ...can't see a trace of any of it .

The rest of the panels are fading fast although the lf fender, lf door and trunk appear to have been buffed on at some point in the past .
So the car is like 3 different shades of red at this point ....and that really seems like the only bigger downside to the whole car .

The fuel filler door has two indentions on it like it has been bent and also there is a nice spot where the paint has been burned through with buffing and or wetsanding .
Same goes for the trunklid and top of the rr qp ..they have also been slightly burned through .
Trunk aslo has some kind of spill stain on it .

Inside is decent ebough with the exception of the drivers door panel .
Its been punctured/ripped in a small area ...seems like the seatbelt latch used to catch between the door because the door is alo beat in the same area .
Also the door seal has been torn in the same spot .

Pretty sure that the center console has been drilled into because there is that fugly cupholder mounted and there are remnants of an old school carphone being installed at some point as well .

The 6-button OBC display is thrashed .
Check panel works as it intended .

Engine looks like it has not been touched in ages .
Heater hoses looked pretty old and showed signs of cracking due to old age .
Cam seal and/or intermediate shaft seal are leaking and quite possibly the headgasket might be seeping slightly contributing to the oil on the front of the engine .

The front of the engine, oilpan, block and the pan between the rack and trans is all just coated in oil/grime from various leaks over time .

And the t-belt shows no signs of being changed for at least several years ...none of the parts looked like they had been disturbed any time recently .
The drive belts are all old as hell as well .

Trans is probably leaking from all three places as well since it coated all over in oil .

Diff seemed to just have the regular little oil weeping out over time from the cover and the output seals .

But with all that being said ....the car did run and drive quite well .
No signs of being down on power and it revved freely and sounded good .
Clutch action was good as well .
The car really drove nice and tight .
A/C is in working order as can be expected in a Texas car .

All in all I would say that is a nice car for the most with the paintwork being the only thing that would be semi-costly to remedy .

I would say do the t-belt and all the seals and it will be a good runner for quite some time .

Hope all that helps dude .

How much to fix all those gasket problems? How much is the car worth, as is?

        Thanks,

Price seems ok personally I would try to bring him down some seeing as the car will need work. As for the gasket it will cost you as much as a gasket is worth if you can do the work. Remember oil leaks like this offten cause other problems so the cost can go up as you clean away the engine bay and discover problems.

Sounds a bit pricey for all of the work it needs. Is that odometer working? I'd try to talk him down a bit.

I'd agree with 2k. 2.5k if you really want a red 4-door. E30's are cheap enough. You can pretty much search around and find exactly what you are looking for (color, engine, transmission, early/late, etc) for around 3-5k without any major issues to deal with.

I would challenge you on that one. It took forever to find this car. Here's what I want:

                    89 or later
                    325i
                    4-door
                    manual tranny
                    black interior
not a white or beige interior
solid mechanical condition, good interior - no cracks in the dash, etc.

Find me one of those for less than 5k, and prove me wrong.

Well, that certainly looks more well maintained. I would be swapping in black sports seats anyway, and door cards cant be that pricey. Looks like it needs paint and an air duct for the front bumper, otherwise it's 1500 less and more well maintained than the other. I'm interested. Any others that fit my description? Also could you get me that guy's contact info?

better off getting a car that is slightly different than what you want and mofifying it than getting many bad surprizes from the aforeposted shitbox

I'm trying - I can't seem to register (never got the conf. email), so I PM'd the guy who found it to see if he could get me contact info! Hopefully I'll be picking that up sooner than later.
