    My 2nd BMW, an e30!!

Well I finnaly picked up a 1987 325i with 104k miles for $200. Owner went to turn on the car, timing belt snapped and broke the rocker arm. One of the valves were sunk too.

Whats the best source to learn how to rebuild the engine on this thing? Any DIY's online?

and a pic of the e36

        wow...$200 is a steal!

Good candidate for a motor swap.

I would do a motor swap if the car was an 89+ with the plastic bumpers. Really wanted that look but couldn't pass this one up.

I think I want to rebuild the engine and track the car in stock class.

For what you paid for the car, you can justify euro bumpers, which IMO look better than plastics anyways.

Though if you want to turn it into a track rat, it wouldn't be worth it (the big divingboards are better for track use anyways).

Swap in a new motor, sell it for a profit, and get a plastic bumper car. I know of a non-airbag EARLY 1990 325is 5-spd that might be for sale soon. Needs paint and some dent removal but is solid and complete.

this coming from the guy with a bunch of cars ;), I wanted to rebuild and track, do you think its better to swap instead of rebuild?

I think that car is a PERFECT daily driver/beater. That's all.

I think it's best to start with a plastic bumper car before doing anything.

                          Just personal preference, though.

Yah, I totally agree. Now should I rebuild the engine or swap another m20?

If you can find a cheap "i" engine (and you should be able to find a cherry one for $500 or less) you can re-sell the car for $1500 easily and make a couple hundred bucks profit.

If you've got any mechanical skills whatsoever and think you can rebuild the top end yourself, go for it. The more you save the more profit margin you'll have when you sell the thing.
