There were two different M-tech 1 side skirts.... One for the 1986 and a different set for 1987. The '86 skirts don't go all the way up like the '87's do.

It was an original Euro E30 sent to the states, was made that way by federalization.

Thats really strange. They made you put them in that position? Euro e30's had them in same position as the e36, (i know because mine are there).

As for the light wipers, I'm sure BMW made them as unobtrusive as possible.

That's not where they came from in Europe. That's where the US Federalization process placed them.

I have an '86 mtech1 and my skirts go all the way up as you say,
it ends where it meets the trim

p.s. I removed the rear spring pads, its about 1/4" lower now.
