    85 320i Baur TC

Hey, new here. Some pics of my Baur TC, just bought it a couple months ago. Bought it with 84k on the odometer, someone abandoned it at a dealer not running. Bought it for $500.

Probably garaged most of it's life. Spent it's youth in Munich before importation around the turn of the century. Was missing the top section of the roof when abandoned so the interior needs some clean-up and/or replacing. I'm debating swapping to black with sport seats.

At this point, it's all stock except for a new Koni suspension, mtech illuminated shiftknob and an Alpine deck. Plan on keeping it mostly stock, except for upgrading the rest of the audio, new exhaust and some other minor tweaks.

No lie, $500. My roommate was buying a Mini Cooper at a dealer here in town and I had been looking for an e30, not mint, just a beater to drive around town. I saw this and didn't know what a Baur was, and asked how much. He said a friend/customer of his had it towed in, but the guy was loaded and basically just left it there and didn't care. None of the mechanics could get it running.

I didn't do the work, my brother is a performance mechanic in town, lucky me, so he got it running (poorly, but running) in under 10 minutes. At that point, it was having a fuel delivery problem. Tested everything out and gave it a tune-up, running ok, but rich. Resoldered some connections on the ECU. Got a couple used AFMs off German Ebay and away we go. Still needs a fan clutch and probably a master cylinder, but it's running pretty well now.

It's having an odd issue of the oil light coming on whenever you press the brake light, but it's probably related to getting rained on for almost a year. I want to put a 13 button OBC in it since the clock light is out anyway, so when I do that he'll pull out all the electronics and get that running correctly.

The interior is the exact opposite of the exterior, unfortunately! Driver door has a lot of wear on the houndstooth around where the window handle is, carpet is really stained and the cloth is basically really hard and uncomfortable due to exposure to the elements. (they put a piece of cardboard over the car, I don't know why buying a $7 tarp at least was a big deal, but I guess it was)

So I'm looking for a deal on some recaro seats and at that point I'll likely swap the interior to black as finding the replacement panel is probably going to be pretty impossible. I think only the Baur's got this fabric treatment.

I ended up having to drive out to Detroit (through Canada!) to pick up another Baur shell that a guy had begun to restore, but didn't get much further than taking it apart. Luckily though, he put in the brand new unused Koni suspension. So I basically bought the missing top piece and the Koni suspension for $600. I took the rest of the car and have been taking little things here and there, but that car is/was mostly gone. No engine/trans, etc. Too bad, it only had 49k on it when it was stored in a barn near NY. Now it's basically a shell missing almost everything. It had the Baur door panels, but some retard cut speakers into a section right next to the driver thigh. not the best acoustical placement. So I don't want to use them, and they would have been perfect for my Baur correct black interior swap!!

And don't worry, the trailer indicators are coming off...

Oh, and no, it's completely not for sale. :-) Already had three offers driving it around town!

I do want to put some basketweaves on it though, and possibly drop the front a little bit more. (you can't tell in those pics, but it is slightly dropped now)

you found a baur in Detroit? I'm lucky if I see an e30 a month. :)
