    Turbo M42 Race Car

A number of you have asked for more info on the car that my partner and I have built for BMW CCA and NASA GTS Challenge racing. There is some info under the track section here as well as at Bimmerforums.

Here's the info that I'm willing to share...

Custom built M42 turbo. Stock head at this point with a 666 Fab manifold and custom Tec3r from Vic Sias. This is in our track dedicated E30 chassis with a Ground Control suspension and UUC BBK. Most of the work was one-off. I've heard of people building a turbo M42 and even heard that was one built for the track but info was hard to come by.

The car was built to BMW CCA specs for their D Modified class.

Here is the car in the latest form. We were first on the track in September but confirmed that we lacked the tires and brakes to handle the HP and torque. The current build puts down 283 RWHP and over 300 ft/lbs of torque on a Dyno Dynamics (which I've heard is 15% more conservative than a Dynojet).

    Here are some videos...

deeeeeeelicious. what kind of cooling are you guys using for brakes? i'd think a bbk would be enough, given proper pad selection and cooling.

Damn that's hot. I've never owned an M42 car (driven a few), but I love that motor.

We upgraded to 17x9 with 255/40 tires all around. Required 12mm spacers in the front and cutting of all the fenders with the addition of flares.

              And I'm spent.

How much does a motor like that cost? :D
              Reminiscing...

Number one rule of a project like this... never add it all up.

Whats the displacement of the built motor? Turbo Specs? All these damn turbo m42's make me want to slap on this gt28r I have sitting around. Where can I get one of those filter housing caps?

Yes, it is the same. Because the exhaust is a 3" straight side pipe, we can't bring it any more.

The motor is under 2 liters with a GT3 turbo. Your turbo would be a good choice with the stock displacement.

The oil filer cap is from Victory Product Design but it looks like they stopped taking orders.

What coil are you using? did they take much mods to install?
