so this is my 86 325...bought it for $100 dollars 6 months ago. Spent a little money had it going that weekend. It is a little rough as because the previous owner used it around the farm. We did all his mechanic work and he is great on stuff though. The interior is in great shape, just really dirty, and more than likely can be cleaned. I am stripping everything slowly here at college, but it is my daily driver, so i dont get very involved except for weekends. I have tucked the front bumper fully, the rear about half way. This winter i plan on lowering, and when it warms up i plan on getting wheels. Just wondering which way you guys could see this going. I will be interning at a Harley Shop for school, so i will have money, and my college is already paid for. Let the criticism begin...
for $100, that's a damn good deal. Some people spend 10 times that and end up with a sh*ttier car. See if you can't isolate and repair as much of that rust as possible.
Looks like its pretty complete for $100, but I wouldn't throw alot of money at that rusty chassis. Just fix it up enough so it starts every morning and drive it till the wheels fall off.
Also, '86s aren't super etas.

I would toss those fenders and get new ones. Your paint is shot so if you are repainting no reason to fix rust just get rid of it (I learned the hard way on another non e30 project).
Chip, SSK, and suspension would be my top 3 to make it a decent little economy driver.
I would say for starters paint the front wheels black and re-align the passenger side grill/headlights. other than that slam it to the ground and who cares what it looks like, it can be a rat-commuter :)

yea...well thanks for the info on the non super eta, but compared ot the other one i rode in, it is faster than the 85 e that i rode in. i wonder if it is already chipped? because i have only hit the rev limiter once, and it seemed to be at about 5300rpm. even though it is an open diff. it still drifts nicely on the round-about here at school. about the rust...lol. My brother took a bodywork class at votec school, and we will just cut it out and replace it with somerandom patch panels we have...but the front and rear subframe is really clean, someone at some point took some undercoating and coated it. I have taken some stuff off and sandblasted it. I am waiting for time here to pull the front two wheels off to sandblast them and paint them. I am planning on smoking the headlights soon maybe this weekend, and i will paint the kidneys then, and align everything. I have a new tailight to replace the cracked lenz, cause it looks liek crap. But i have been trying to decide whether i want Vogtland springs, or some tuner motorsports. it has some bilstein shocks/struts on now that we put on for the previous owner. What springs would you guys recommend? It also has some slightly bigger injectors. so it dropped 3 mpg, and overfuels half the time, but runs great on the top end.
but i can complain. i got a walbro 255/lbph pump from napa, the previous owner did head work, and we put the timing belt on. All together i have $280 in it, plus my labor, but me and my dad know nothing about them, but i have been doing a lot of research. But he is pretty accomplished. I thought about just fixing the rust, and doing the Flat black/clear finish on it, like we did to this 50's gasser. we have multiple turbo's sitting around. I might rebuild one quick. I found out that the m20b27's are supposed to have 149 pounds of compression, and mine with 182,xxx miles has like 136 pounds still...and everything is tight. no oil burnage, so i might slap a turbo on it. we have a h20 holset turbo off of a dodge ram that we built, and it is tight, but we got about 48psi out of it, and it spooled rather quickly, so after some math i might see if the little 2.7 could generate enough volume of air to fully spool it, and broing it down to like 12psi. I also was thinking about some sportmax 501's cause i am planning on using it as a dd, and dont wanna put a bunch of money into wheels for missouri roads to eat them up. More suggestions welcome, and will take pics of anything
plan sounds great but what is it with these sportmax wheels?
search the wheel and tire 4x100 classifieds on vwvortex.com or source some basket weaves they are cheaper than sportmaxes ,stronger and relatively easy to find but thats just my personal opinion.
im on vogtland springs and i have no complaints fairly firm but not too harsh for daily commuting i say do it

Also, for those who don't know, negative camber is the greatest thing since sliced bread(panera). Even tire wear is for city busses and the elderly.
