Cool. I think R3V is more open-minded than you give credit.

Sounds like a killer swap that will be a imitation of a M3 with a crazy S14 motor in it, weight, balance, & HP wise. Just $15K less on the motor budget.

Post progression pics & when done too.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

I think this is an amazing project. Believe it or not, I've been looking into doing the same thing. I was inspired by this pic:

The 13B is pretty much the lightest and most compact modern engine you can buy. Perfect for an E30 track car IMNSHO. Even the 13B-REW is just a tiny bit bigger.

Please keep us posted! I'm especially interested in how you do the wiring, what kind of engine management you run, etc.

Actually the 13B isn't really a lightweight - all iron! A 13B-REW (third gen FD motor) weighs within 25lbs of the LSx series motors. But its so small you can mount it very far back and get great weight distribution. If your builder is good and the tuning is perfect, rotaries will last a long time. You gotta drive the shit out of them once in awhile, carbon buildup on seals will kill them quickly. I'll be following the progress on this build - good luck and post pics often :)

                          Actually:
1)the 13b is made of iron and aluminum (note aluminum housings pictured)
2)13BT is found in the FC (not what I have) 13b-rew is found in FD (what I have)

People need to stop raggin on rotaries if they have never wrenched on them before or had any first hand experience with them. People always go by what other say and what they have seen. What they see are examples of rotaries that were not taken care of. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that rotaries are reliable, but they can last a lot longer if people did what was necessary to keep them in good running condition. My first love has been rotaries, unfortunately they get horrible gas mileage, so that is why i DD an e30. I still have a rotary till this day! Running great as hell! So.....GL on this project and let me know if you need any help.
