$1300 was a nice price. This car needs some L&C and it will look killer. As Jordan pointed out, the rust on the strut tower looks bad. When you remove the body kit, be prepared for a big surprise. I paid $2000 for my '89 but the body was terrible, much worse than what you've got.
I've seen factory BMW paint peel of the clear layer before, it's usually from standing in the sun all year and never getting any attention (wax/polish/rub/etc..). And yeah, some euro spec items really would help the cars aesthetics.

I'd be wary of the maintenance record and the state of the suspension and driveline.. it might make a $1300 purchase price sound expensive.

Had you seen my car before paint? It was a mess.

As others have said a high mileage IX seems sorta scary. Best of luck.

I think IX control arms are stupid expensive too.

      Sold it.

Yea man.. I have seen this car in person. I gave it the whole rundown.. I just didnt hear it run or get to drive it.. Tom beat my friend to it. It is really not that bad. I saw the rust on the drivers strut, and I believe there is some in the notorious plate light area. It does have its good parts though.

Whenever your ready to tackle some big projects let me know. I'll come and help out. And someday i'll have to take a ride in that thing since ive never been in a 'good' i car. I drove an 87 'is' near clear spring that my eta would have spanked. And def talk to drdave about ix's. Ive seen his car, and it truely a nice piece. Ive got to hook back up with him now so i can get a ride in his since he put the motor back together.

Good luck with it, im sure you will learn a lot. I have picked up so much useful info from this forum and such.

yeah i'll get down that way sometime. I need to work on removing all the stuff from the bottom of the car so i can sit it on blocks or something. I can't really pull the suspension until i have something for it to sit on. i guess i could buy some more jack stands. i haven't done any suspension work on my own yet so it might take me some time to get the stuff off. i'll hit up by email later i am going to eat then head to the bar with my one buddy for his 21st.

This should make a great fixer upper. Just be wary of the problems with the front diff on Ix's. Im sure after a bit of work, it'll look awesome

After all that then customization will set in, plastic bumpers, tracking down black or tan interior, and some euro specing.
Noooo! I love that color scheme, diamondschwartz(or at least it looks it) with cardinal interior. That's the scheme our truck is going to be.

except mine has no rust just no paint either. Joke, great project I also have an ix parts car if you need any random parts or were thinking about going to a grey interior, I would mind having another cardinal red.

Make sure that you check the spline at the transfer case for wear. Its a good practice to lubricate that spline about every 75k just to keep your car AWD rather than 2wd.
