the water pipe on the backside of the head (between the motor and the firewall) failed, the other item prior tothat was a hose clamp broke (no idea how), so when the motor hit about 7500 rpm the upper radiator hose came off the radiator and I lost a good chunk of the water.
I'm debating at this point whether to pull the whole motor out or just the head. Working on the head is much easier if the motor is out of the car...but I'd rather not go through all of that again. Kinda sounds like I've already made up my own mind...just coming to terms with it.
I don't think anything catastrophic is wrong. Once the motor was cold I was able to drive it up onto the tow truck to bring it home and it sounded just fine. Just can't run it for more that a couple of minutes at a time.
I got about 6 good pulls in 3rd from 2k rpm up to 7k...and I can believe the power this thing has. My Tacoma X-Runner has a lot of torque, decent HP (~265) and accelerates pretty fast...but this was incredible.- Jason

Its been a long time since Ive been back there, but you should just be able to drop the engine mounts and raise the engine a bit to get to the hose.
