IMO the Z4 2.5 is a good compromise while lowering the knob considerably. If it is too notchy, the E46 ZHP knob is weighted and factory, what is better than that?

Sweet. You're gonna need to get the single slat Euro front valance to complete that pauvre européen look.
It's not like a 266K mile M42's gonna bowl you over with fuel economy. I think an E36 328 could match it.

Nice clean car. I know what you mean about the gass sipppin. Since I got the 91 318is running that I bought, I have been driving wheels off of it and enjoying the gas milage since I normally drive a full size truck as a DD. It is now used when I need it and all the driving around is done the the 318. I love mine but it does need a paint job. Yours looks very clean. Congrats.sigpic
