    yeah it works by creating a high pressure area on top and a low pressure area on the bottom.. like an air foil. not by keeping air from going under the car

    I bought some more self tapping screws, I probably never drive fast enough for it to rip off but sometimes it gets pretty windy here, and I've spent like $350 on the stupid spoiler so far! haha

      Yes it does make that much of a difference. You don't want air going under the car because that air pushes the car upwards and generates instability.... that piece of plastic prevents a LOT of air from going under the car, and therefore downforce is generated, giving the car more stability at high speeds.
      Both of you have a bit of the right idea, it's just not pieced together. A race-engineered splitter will function to create heaps of downforce. These splitters are made of ultra-stiff composites that are fastened to the chassis by heavy duty hardware. Ryan's splitter is great from a cosmetic point of view, but should not be considered a race product that creates downforce.

          I basicly have one of Ryan's splitters on my e30. I had him send me a hunk of unshaped plastic for my lip (since he doesnt offer a splitter for the infinity lip)

          I have the lip bolted to the valance via 10 10mm bolts/nuts, and the splitter is attached to the lip via 13 of the self taping screws Ryan supplies.

          There is no doubt it generates downforce.

          At a standstill I have about 1/2inch of gap between my front fender and tire.

          At 90MPH I am beginning to tuck tire up front.

          I've taken it up to 130MPH on a backroad, but wasn't very comfertable doing so because I was scraping my cat on lumps in the road at those speeds. No fucking joke. No problems with the lip/splitter detatching itself.

            I'd be interested in getting a splitter made but Ryan doesn't offer one for BMP's kit. Maybe someone in the area could let Ryan get the specs from their car so he could start making them, since there are a few guys on the board with the BMP peice.

              Well, it's pretty much the same idea is the adj. splitter on the e36 M3 Lightweights...which was/is used in racing Stu. They may be more securely fastened though, compared to the Ryan's splitter.

              BTW, Ryan...may be interested in one of your splitters, once you're back in action.

                That's just it Trevor, the E36 LTW splitter is designed for racing because it is a race splitter. It's made of thick, ultra-stiff composite that's seriously bolted to the chassis and bumper.

                Ryan's splitter deflects at speed and will flap up and down, only because it is a thin piece of plastic tied to another thin piece of plastic (iS lip). Of course it will deflect at speed, and how can an unstable wing produce downforce?

                Ryan's splitter looks similar to the E36 LTW one, mostly because the contour of the bumper-bottom is similar on late model iS E30's and the LTW E36 M3. The construction, hardware, performance, and adjustability of the E36 LTW splitter make it a true race splitter. Let's not forget that BMW Motorsport designed that piece.... :P

                    Fitment is definately good, especially with the side pieces coming to the rear of the valance. I was very pleased with the way mine fit.

                      BTW, I got rid of clips, I put 8 10mm bolts around, and now it has very minimal movements, I mean compare to the clips.
