After watching this car come up for sale twice in the last year and both times nobody really jumping on it, I did. The car used to belong to my very good friend Eric about 5 years ago so it is close to "the family" The car sat on craigslist for a few weeks and kept tempting me. I figured what the hell, I put up my 325is on craigslist and had it sold in an hour. Eric and I jumped in the car this morning at 7am and headed for the east. Just got back in town so I thought I would share. The car needs some work but it has had thousands invested into making it right. I'm going to be the one who finishes the job. A full respray is already in the works. I need to track down the correct wheels ( you hear that Joe??? ) and fix a number of things. All in all I am absolutely in love! Hope you all enjoy.
Dude, nice find! Can't wait to see the finished project!
Yes, those Hartge skirts should be on this H23. It looks like the originals were removed.
As far as correct wheels, Hartge offered a number of sizes/piece for this year - one piece 7 x 14" 7 x15" & 7.5 x 16". In 3 piece they offered 7.5 x 16 & 7.5 x 17" ALL in 4 on 100. Just because you all haven't seen 3 piece 16 & 17's doesn't mean they weren't available, the above sizes are straight from the 3 series catalog. Joe Funk has a correct set for this car.
You could have the 1.) valve cover/header/full exhaust option or 2.) all of those plus the head. The head option was almost non existent on cars they modified to end up in the USA because of having to meet federal emission laws. If it is the Hartge head with cams, it will have "hartge" stamped into the rear driver side of the head. It is hard to see & may take some contorsions as well as a mirror. The picture I have attached of the head - zoom in on it & you can clearly read the the first 4 letters of Hartge.
The extra gas tank in yours is extremely rare.
Jack, reading through the first page I was thinking "CactusJacks prolly has a lot of knowledge on this topic"...
I was about to jump in my car and head to Walla Walla last week to pick this thing up, but I'm glad it went to someone on here. Hope to see it at next years picnic.
as far as your car goes, I am sure it is exactly like the early Alpina e30s. they came in a million different config. I dont believe there is anything documented on them though.
I have the Hartge catalog infront of me (and posted the scanned copy somewhere on here before) and the ONLY thing they have anymore is the muffler for your car. dont even have rims. -- in the pic in the catalog, those sideskirts are on a facelift model, doesnt mean they didnt come of pre though.
