lol why is 35 highway hard to believe with a 3.46 lsd? 2600 rpm @ 65 is not rocket science. I previously had a 4.10 and there were times where I would burn through $120 in fuel a week just in the E30.

The 3.46 came off an e28 (swapped flanges and the rear of the case) and as for sportmaxx to each his own.

which e28? I found a bunch of them at the junk yard but all of them said 3.46 on the tags, there weren't any that said S3.46 on them. Does yours say S3.46?

S3.46's came only on E24CSI's. the also fit e30's. same rear end as an e28 minus the air suspension.

I know what they came out of but I was wondering the exact model he got his from. I found 2 535i's and a 535iS and they all had 3.46 tags on them but none of them had an "S" on the tag. I also found an 88 635csi and that one had a tag that said 3.45. no "S" just 3.45.

Yes it is an S3.46. Todd from Dynotech Motorsports in Oceanside sent one of his guys to pick it up from Ecology. I thought it was from an e28 but I'm not 100% sure. I do know that It took a long time to find one. I was planning to use it for a turbo build but that has been postponed, so I figured I could still use it to increase mpg. At 75 the revs are at 2900 which is perfect.

The 3.46 only came in the US E23 735i (85-86), and some '88 528e's. And yes it is a nearly perfect ratio.

The late model E24's (88-89) got 3.91 in Automatic form, and 3.64 in 5-speed form.
