Bah, I'm sure an S50 will be enough of a thrill in that thing. I imagine this thing will be a bit more of a mild DD than something you'd want to invest more time and money into. IMO, I'd say leave the drivetrain where you currently have it projected.

My dad bought a '71 2002 and is having it done by Sports Car Restoration in Plantsville (soon to be moved to Plainville) CT. The car will be colorado/black combo with turbo flares. Some of the trick suspension will be a modified E30 rear subframe to use any E30 diff and 325i disc brakes, as well as adding about 1" track. Also E3/E9 control arms to add a good bit of camber up front. There is more planned, but can't remeber off the top of my head. This is a 3-4 year long term project as well.
Good grief, Schrick 304! I may be able to hear that lope from NC! :D That sounds like a serious build though, oh the joys of having deep pockets.

Your father's '02 sounds like it should be very impressive as well, I haven't heard of E3/E9 suspension components being used on an '02 before. The widened track should be really interesting on an '02. Would an E30 M3 rear subframe be a possible swap for that thing? It would be sick to have a 5-lug '02.

That touring is gravy. I have been tying to talk my wife out of the minivan and into one of those for years.

I agree about the m-systems and the slight drop, but I would convert it to the smaller kidneys.

Thanks, but it is going to be a spread out project so incurring costs are not as much. I've been considering getting rid of my 318i and getting a solid 2002, but here in the Northeast, it's difficult to find one that isn't a basket case. That M10 is going into my father's 2002. :)

Sports Car Restoration are the guys that figured out how to fit the E30 subframe in an 02. Just section out a section on both sides, then weld it back together. They made up a Jig so that it can be done more precisely.

        See here:

Go Here and look for the pig-cheeked wagon.

Thanks for the compliments on the E34 guys! I drove it back from RI last month in a wicked thunderstorm, and it was still a pleasant ride. I highly recommend getting one for a DD, and using an E30 as a weekend car. They are awesome.

^ Ah yeah, I saw that SCR site a while back, they really do some impressive work.

Wow, that M10 is going in your father's '02? That should be a really insane. I wonder if that SCR place will eventually plant an E30 M3 rear subframe in an '02, that would be ridiculous.

That's what they are doing. With either an aluminum block M52 or an S14. :p They're crazy.

Ha, thanks man. Its my dad's shop, but I have a permanent area for my toys. :D I mainly work on an Okuma 3-axis vertical milling machine w/ OSP200 programming at his other shop.

Lordy, an aluminum block M52 in an '02 would be nuts. Hell, anything 24V in an '02 would be nuts.

                        Updates:

                        I can haz S50 Touring! :D

Decided not to run the 3.5" MAF, so I could use the stock airbox. Just running 21.5lb. Pink Top Injectors & a Turner Chip. I drove it down the block yesterday after I thought I had properly bled the brakes. :o Ended up having very little braking power, then noticed the rotors were shot, and the pads were almost metal on metal. So I just replaced those, and am in the process of getting the underdash back together, and then the hood. Stomp code revealed it needs an O2 sensor too, so that will be up next along with a new fan clutch & exhaust system.

Any opinions on a nice sounding, but decently quiet exhaust? I'm thinking Supersprint or Remus. I think B&B may be a bit too loud as I'm running that on the E28 with straight pipes.

                        Opinions?

                        TIA.

Wow, nice job man! There seems to be room to spare also (something I'm not used to saying when it comes to any E34 engine bay.)

I'm not sure, it is a S50, but being on an E34iT I wonder if any S50 exhaust would be long enough. I'd say just for a stock E36 M3 exhaust. They look good and sound fine for daily use.

Thanks! Thats one of the highlights of working on a 5-series compared to E30's. Tons of space.

Do E36 exhausts even fit E34s? I was just going looking for applications for a 525i and were the ones I listed above. Hell, I'd try and find a stock M3 exhaust if I knew the fit. Thanks for the input.
