hello everyone, so after driving the e30 cross country some friends and i decided that we would go to the Salton Sea in the California desert to check it out, also going to Salvation Mountain, and then to Joshua Tree National Park.
the salton sea was loaded with these:

so the salton sea is an abandoned resort town, south of palm springs, it never took off in the 1960's, so the towns are deolate and the businesses are all closed.

those are all dead fish:

Bombey Beach, CA (this town was on the Salton Sea, looked like a nuclear fall out zone, trailers everywhere, littered with trash. People lived there still though and were very friendly, they seemed very content!)

next was the real treat of the day's trip. we drove to Salvation Mountain/Slab City. Now if any of you have seen the movie or read the book "Into the Wild" you have seen this place, its unique!
Basically Leonard Knight decided that this would be the location of his message to everyone: "God loves all". It started out as a small 8ft monument and has grown into this "mountain" since it began in 1985. We got there and he was with an older couple. But warmly welcomed us, told us to look around and check it all out and he would be with us in a few minutes. I honestly don't think I have ever come across someone so genuinely happy, he lives out here sleeps in a bed outside, and while I'm not a religious person, I thought his message was pretty neat, he told us that religion is simple, "God loves us all" no more no less, after some research I found out that numerous churches have approached him about using his mountain but they had a "problem with his message" and that he "would have to change it" he refused their help. Okay on with the pics!!

and that's it!! it was a nice day trip, Leonard was no doubt the highlight, refreshing to meet someone who is completely content with themselves. He gets about 60-100 visitors/day in the winter and less in the summer months. Today is his 77th birthday so I would imagine that he won't be around too much longer so it was a treat to meet and talk to him, I know Slavation Mountain will always be famous, but he won't be around forever so with that in mind it was pretty cool!
