Tortilla Flat: My First Canyon Run

I recently moved from Small Town, MO to Phoenix, AZ. Anyone who lives in a metro area knows how boring and straight city roads can be. I went from a windy daily drive on back roads to a five turn, hwy commute. After a few months I heard of a few mountain roads that sounded pretty exciting. So, I decided to check one of them out. I went during the day so as to scope it out. I heard it was pretty dangerous if you don't know the road. The road was full with weekend tourists but I still had a great time. And, the chance to get out of the city was well worth it. After a few more day-lit runs I'll go back at night for a more spirited drive.
Here are some pics of the road, scenery and of course the e30.

Ahh I miss my state. Depending on where you are in phoenix, there's some good rides out East as well. Take the 202 East until you hit Power road (it's a ways from downtown) then turn north. a few miles past the freeway the road turns incredibly fun, similar to Tortilla flats. Also, there's some really tight roads that go through Globe (about 50 mi. east of Phoenix) and Sedona. (It's nearly to Flagstaff, but some of the best scenery in the world.) If you go to Sedona, check out the restaurant they have at the airport- it's on a mountain overlooking the Red Rocks, it's cheap, good food, and great people.

That looks a lot like the "Tail of the Dragon" without the trees. Sure looks fun.

I hate to be the one to rain on your parade, but please don't do anything stupid. That's a nice road, and a nice car but neither will agree with each other if the rubber side doesn't stay down for some reason. Have your fun on a weekday when the sun is out, that way you'll have less cars and if some local flora or fauna should decide to take a closer look at your car you'll have a better chance of avoiding it.

                          Cheers,
                          Brendan
