I don't see how they are better than GC's, they are using the same strut/shock combo and I prefer GC's locking ring.

I just like the fact that they bolt-on right out of the box. No dicking around with cutting the strut housings and welding up the mounts. Also, I can't complain about the stainless steel, zinc coated housings...

PS. I've had GCs and I loved them. It just seems like these are essentially the same thing, but less work...

they are actually like 12 or 1300 plus a $925 core. the deal i got when i ordered them was for $930 plus the cores, which i grabbed at the junkyard and sent to them before mine came in, so i was never even charged on top of the $930. worked out pretty well and they look really well-built. i'm stoked to get them on and dialed in. ;)

some more progress on the wheels. 3 of them are done being sanded and polished. i also got some center caps from a friend. one wheel left to be sanded and polished, still need to sort the bolts, think im going to go with black.

last night was finally coilover install time. i headed to a friends shop with all my parts ready to go, and we got started around 7pm. around 330am we got the car back down on the ground with the front suspension installed haha.

we realized the best way to get to the top nuts on the inboard mounting bolts on the control arms was to drop the subframe, which meant dropping the steering rack as well. while the subframe was out we cleaned the hell out of it, as well as the rack.

new control arms and ball joints, M3 CABs, sway bar end links, tie rod ends, as well as new hubs/bearings went in, and obviously the coilovers with new strut mounts as well. pressing in new the hub was a pain. i assumed when i ordered new ones they'd come with new nuts. they did not, so we reused the old ones, which will be replaced again sooner rather than later. i was also unclear that i'd have to reuse the dust shield and the small cup that protects the back side of the wheel bearing, so we had to press the old hub off the stock setup to swap that stuff over.

pressing out the old CABs proved to be one of the biggest pains in the ass of the night until we got our hands on an air chisel. trying to realign the subframe with the motor mounts and then the subframe to the body was also a huge pain. so many pains ha. we supported both the subframe and motor with pole jacks while the car was on the lift, and it took much finagling but we finally got er in. i'm not sure if there are much easier ways to do some of this stuff, but it was all of our first times working on an e30 and we learned as we went. all in all, it wasn't smooth, but it got done the right way and i'm pleased so far.

the FKs go low. this pic is obviously with the helper springs not even compressed. i raised the perches about half way up and when the car was lowered to the ground the front tires were tucking pretty hard. plenty of room to go down. i suspect i'll probably be able to get 4"+ of drop with the helpers in...and they go up to close to stock height.

those were pretty much all the pics that i took, we stopped worrying about pics and spent most of our time trouble shooting and trying to get the car able to roll on the ground again after the early honeymoon stages of the install were over. the rears will go in sometime in the next week. no pics of the fronts installed, we were exhausted when we finished and i couldn't stand looking at the car for one more second ha.
