What is an upgrade or downgrade is subjective. I don't know why you are giving the guy a hard time. He mentioned what he did to his car and posted a picture.

A manual rack and a power steering rack w/o power steering are two different things.

I'm not trying to give him a hard time, I was trying to explain that his rack gives him a higher ratio, so it has slower steering, which just so happens to be the opposite result that he wants. And I only mentioned it because he claimed otherwise.

Forget it, carry on with your false info. I'm done.

I spotted him as a little snot nosed 16yo riceboy the minute I saw the thread title and that "mod" list .

He's a moron and will r3v his little beater "race" car before spring is even sprung .

the way a 318is handles is alot different then the 6cyl cars, remeber the M3 also has a 4 cyl.

Bingo, couldn't have said it better myself.

OP, focus on making your car appear different than a rolling pile of debris before you focus on making "lightweight". Possibly partake in a few DE's or autocrosses.

Wowo some guys are hard asses on here eh. Maybe its lost in translation. I speak Canadian EH LOL

Not into "rice" cars sir. double the age and you got it, and sorry but the snot is whipped from my nose, I keep it clean. Have to or our Igloo's get all slimmy up here. Maybe I am some big armed lumber jack that coulb pick up a bus, so the steering is better for me eh. Or maybe I have had to many Molsons, you know our beer north of the border is so strong.

Lighten up, its a rides section!!! This is a project car I am building for me not you, if I was building a car for you then you could bitch.

Its not a "race" car. the build's goal is a daily driver that will be fun to drive on a track, and being a project means its not finished....you know nothing about what has been done to rebuild the car other then what I feel are mods - which to me is not stock...but maybe this is Canadian thing.

Well better go shovel the snow and find the Molsons chilling in the snow bank!!

You'r 32 and actually painted your car flat black? Awesome, that does take balls. Here's the thing... your Mtech "suspension" is what exactly? How are old shocks an upgrade?? Change your shocks to match your spring rate. An LSD is an upgrade, That is why people still search for them. Expect some back lash on the rack opinion (which it is on your side as well, an OPINION). I have never felt like I lost feel at 5k and over, nor has my rack ever leaked (e304lyf).

                  Manual e30 racks are 4.25 turns. It's a downgrade. Stock is 4.0.

And there is no additional "feel". You're riding in a car with rubber bushings and soft suspension. Been there, done that. With both my e30 track car (4.0 turn rack) and my e30 street car (3.0 turn rack). It feels cool at first, but it is not helpful on the track nor the street. It just makes low speed accident avoidance less likely, making the car more dangerous.
Take this to heart, he knows what he is talking about.
Get a paintjob and fix what needs fixing. That will make it a good daily.

honestly the first good response and advise. I like the flat black, and am keeping it that way, not sure why I like it but I do :) The diff is a 4.10LSD, came origional on the car.
As for the supension I am planning on redoing the whole thing this year. Was looking at buying a coil over set up, but might have one custom made. A guy I know from another site's Dad maintains a few M1's and other race BMW's and is building some sweet custom adjustable struts for someone and might see if he can do me a set. i will probley go with a new set of belsteins for the car all around. Sourcing full polly bushings and a camber adjustment kit and tree house control arm brackets. Also thinking of aluminum control arms all around to shed some weight, but worried about strength. thats the next part of my project.

And there you go. Just so you know, poly gets squeaky as it ages. Doesnt affect performance, just gets squeaky. Almost every peice of rubber under my car is poly. sans the exhaust hangers and motor mounts. it squeaks like the tin man.

I know what poly sounds like, regular greasing helps, but it always comes back.

It just makes me laugh that people come onto an E30 board and try to act like they know more than the regulars.
