+1 (holland). I love a minty engine. How much $ do you now have tied up in it? Prolly makes you sick thinking of it. :) -
in the words of the teres guy, "Bitch, I love you!" lol
The 12v VR is such a sweet motor. by far, probably VW's "greatest mistake" as it was originally designed to be a turbo diesel motor. Hence, why it is such a narrow v6. also the reason why it has such an enviable torque band! VW really effed up by not making a RWD Corrado VR6. Even tho corrado's were overpriced back then(which is why they discontinued them.... nobody bought them), I bet things would have been EXTREMELY different if they had.
Anyways, excellent build bud! Im very envious as I never got to finish my 12v build since it got totalled. :( Be a man, take the extra step and get USRT's ITB kit when it comes out!!! I think the entire kit will be somewhere in the range of 7-900.
Nothin like the sound of a VR on ITB's... Truely unique.
Props.Leave a comment:

I love 12v VR6's for some reason. I'm jealous over your clean engine. Very nice though.
Btw, I never seen the cylinder configuration to a VR, so it was really cool to see that, now I know what a narrow block motor looks like.Leave a comment:

Ok well, I ended up getting the cam sprocket off a while ago. I had to blow torch the thing and melt the trigger wheel, and put a 9 foot breaker bar on it, lift up my entire work bench weight on the bolt, and jump up and down, but it came off!
So I dropped another $170 at the stealer on misk things I forgot including a new wheel.
Brought the engine back to school and have been working on it. Timing was a bitch, took forever to get it to line up right with the slack in the right place. I spent a lot of time on stupid crap so I haven't gotten a ton done, but progress none the less.
I'm currently battling a stripped exhaust nut I put on when I was hanging the manifolds. First damn nut I put on just spins when I got it up to the proper torque... Weak.
Basically got the timing done, covers on and sealer, oil system in, misk accessories, a motor mount, and fixed the bolt I busted the head off on the oil drive shaft cover. (The one right under the exhaust, didn't put a graded bolt in it and snapped the head off by accident)

Took some rather bad pics of the front suspension. I dropped the sub frame a while ago and ground off the little surface rust it had, degreased it, and gave it a fresh coat of paint. Including new control arms, sway bar end links, tie rod ends (inner and outer), and brakes.

That is all.
As long as I don't run into stupid shit, I'm shooting to have the engine in the bay fri/mon somehow I bet I will be wasting a lot of time on something retarded though.Leave a comment:

No, its within spec, there wasn't any domes to begin with. Just looks like it from the circular carbon buildup in the before pics.
all the CR changes were done with the pistons and HG.Leave a comment:

Has the head been milled down to an extreme level of high compression? I dont see any domes!! Thats pretty cool, i like the army colors that you painted the manifolds.
I want to see some videos of the finished product!Leave a comment:

Yeah I noticed that right after I posted, I was hoping no one else would.
btw, it worked mediocre. Probably some cleaner / more gritty media would have made it better.Leave a comment:

Yeah fore sure, I will have the pics all the way till its done.
I'm not going to do the heater core. Its really easy to disconnect the hoses in the engine bay, its the dash thats the bitch. I would do it if I swap a black dash in, but I'm still un-decided if I feel like doing that or not.Leave a comment:
