hey I'm not trying to raise hell but I have 256 dyno proven horses to the wheels on 19# injectors and have put probably 10k miles, a trip to colorado, and two track days on my car since it was turbo'd.

but it does have a unichips ecu running the tuning, so that might be why.

know what, I'm going to do one more edit: my total build cost was 6x your budget.

i want to be excited about your build but every single part of it sucks. your turbo, your injectors, your management, your budget. you are well on your way to 1) destroying your engine or 2) end up spending more fixing and upgrading shit than you would have to build it right to begin with. post this on e30tech please, you have a lot of learning to do

Wow. Im seeing a lot of hate here.

Point is these are my goals. Whether I achieve them or not is my problem. The ONLY reason why Im doing this is because Im not going in 100% guessing. I have a build thats been done almost EXACTLY the same way as Im doing mine. It puts out the power. It made the budget. That build is running 100%. No leaks, no problems. Fully spools at about 2900rpm, pulls hard all the way through.

Im going to press on and continue. Feel free to leave this thread laughing, or stay and watch. Doesnt matter to me.

If I fail, I will tell everyone that they were right, my turbo was too small, my injectors sucked, my management was terrible, but until then Im still going for it.

          Thanks to all who support.

rodini, i started just like you. my goal was $1k. i'm not hating at all! i'm all for more turbo e30's, but trust me, you will end up wishing you saved up and did it right the first time. i had all my shit together (chip, begi, 524td manifold, nissan junkyard turbo) thinking i could prove everyone wrong and do the cheapest turbo build evarr, but after doing my research and learning from other people, i sold it all. i spent the next year learning how to tune my N/A m20 on megasquirt and collecting quality parts. finally the day had come when my "reliable" turbo system was going to be installed, and a couple hundred miles later, the piston rings took a shit. what's the history of your engine? good compression? have you given it a leakdown test?

when it comes to turbocharging an engine, tuning is 100% the most critical part of your build. i've built 10+ plug and play megasquirt kits for not much more than your begi and chip... and its infinately adjustable! your exhaust backpressure will end up being very high and you will probably overspool your turbo and blow all the seals. the engine that your turbo came from is tiny and makes about as much hp as we do. think about the flow difference. you will totally bottleneck your exhaust flow. at that point you will want to upgrade your turbo. guess what? bigger turbo's dont fit with the 524td manifold. you will want a 666fab manifold adapter at least. if you still havent blown your engine, you will have to get bigger injectors. motronic doesnt like big injectors, so you'll need standalone. see where this is going? do it right the first time.

thats a good question. I have no idea. I would have to contact the tuner, I don't have a wideband.

It doesn't knock/ping or throw any check engine codes though.

Wideband really would have helped me in the long run.

Get an AEM UEGO, I know a guy that will sell it to you for 212 shipped.

narrowband aint cutting it, dont even go near using a narrowband, especially when you aren't dyno tuning. Your friend using the same turbo is obviously not well tuned with a narrowband, especially with 19lb injectors.
