I still say leave the steering rack for later. Aren't you under a time crunch?

:( can someone please post or show me a thread where there is a picture of the oil pan pickup and how it mounts to the 5th main cap? im ashamed to say i finally lost something in my rats nest hole of a garage... a realoem part number would be AWESOME.

update: misplaced the star driver needed for the rod caps/head studs, organized things around the garage a little, tomorrow the oil pan goes on (pending me finding the oil pan pickup and figuring out how to mount it) and the head can go on as well.

I think I used a 12 point socket for the caps last time I did them. just be careful you don't strip anything.

update: for anyone who might read this besides yoshi -
the situation: missing two small clips that hold on the timing chain guide rail under the timing cover.

resolution: friend got in touch with a friend of his at bimmerworld, the parts are on the way

tomorrow: another junkyard run to grab another set of cams, cam trays and lifters... hopefully the set i took apart on friday is right where i left them...

im praying that once i get that shit in order, i dont find that im missing anything else...

pictures coming soon, i promise.. ive been ridiculously busy with work

            heres a few pictures...

            oil pick up goin on..

cleaning up the cam trays - notice my parts wash is a kitchen sink... shhh

            yep.

            ok 24v Guru's - here's a question for ya. In order, these lifters were taken from a top- m50 NV (e34), m50 vanos, m50 NV(e36 - my engine).
I was missing ONE f*ckin lifter and my cams got all nasty so I went and stripped a fresh, rust free set from my local yard BUT what accounts for the differences between the two NV lifters? Are the interchangable since the center-pin (the raised nipple or whatever you want to call it) is in the same place? enlighten me mighty masters!

Got a job working for a shop in Harrisonburg (@ JMU) - they specialize in DSMs, and for some reason the owner has an affinity for GST's. He apparently owned the fastest one on the east coast for 9 months and the only thing that allows me to believe that is his gf's 800 whp (it IS front wheel though...) GST. still fun..

anyways - either next week or the weekend after Im planning on making the drive back up to get the engine in the car and tow it down here to be finished at my shop :)
