so today i went to see godfather at the machine shop it was fairly productive - not quite as much as i was hoping for but enough that i am pleased with the outcome.
for starters godfather and i made a runner for the plenum we ended up using it as a guide for the 6 holes that we later used the mill to make

for proper design, you want your plenum to be ~40-60% of your displacement, not counting runners. That 40-60 depends on number of cylinders and runner lengths. You need to do a lot of calculations instead of winging it. You may end up building a good looking manifold, but it may function worse than stock one.
