    Refinished Style 5's

My E39 needed some tires and instead of buying new ones, I found another set of better conditioned style 5's with new tires for a great deal. So, I just swapped rims/tires and was left with an extra set of style 5's that could use a good polish.

Just wanted to show off what I've been working on although I can't take credit for the polish...I left that to the professionals. I went the more traditional route leaving the centers silver. Bolts were chrome plated. I did have fun disassembling and reassembling them. Been waiting on some tires but I thought I'd post up a few shots.

Yes, I'm still keeping the Epsilon's...this is just another set of shoes. Sometimes you gotta change it up.

Barry, those look awesome! Going to look great on the M3. :)

You know what would be cool (but it's obviously too late) would be body color matching centers on the wheels. Would be something subtle and different to set you apart from the others. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy! :)

I've seen some RS' like that on a lachssilber M3. Looked good! I thought about it but decided to stay with silver. This is an extra set so if I get over the look, I could always dissemble them in a year or two and paint the centers and repolish the lips. I also kept them silver because I wanted to swap these between cars =D.

They look amazing, but please leave off the centercaps when you run them!
They look so much better without them IMO

Barry - Nice work!! Really puts some "lip stick" on the style 5's. Are the polished lips coated? Did you polish or chrome the bolts?

Thanks, I wanted to polish them myself but to be honest, I wasn't too thrilled with the idea and most DIY jobs I've seen don't have the mirror finish I was after. The bolts were chrome plated. The lips are not cleared but since they are highly polished, they blemish very easily. Hey Jack can the microclear still be applied if the wheels are together?

I also am a fan of the no center cap look. I may have to find something that'll fit over the hub cover.

Barry - yes it can be applied after they are together. The good part is that it would also be applied to the bolt heads. The bad part is that it wouldn't be applied to the wheel lip under the bolt heads. That might make it a potential spot for clear coat to start peeling down the road. I think I would want it applied to the lips before it was bolted together.

Yeah that makes sense. We'll see how it goes. If I ever take them apart again, I'll consider it.

I'm polishing my style 19's this winter. Good work!

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
                              Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite
Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me.
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me.
