Alex, don't forget that the tar is not just sound deadning, but it is "ballast" too, intended to correct weight distribution.

Great build thread, man! I love it that you get to exercise both your hands and checkbook.

            Gonna be awesome!

Hey Luke, I plan to pull a little weight from a few sectors of the car. No ac, CF hood, tar from the middle, and from the trunk... so hopefully it all comes out to about the same. The entire interior floor is also going to get a good coating of por15 too.

                I didn't see any rust...why the POR 15?

100% correct, I plan to keep the car for a very very long time. Just one less thing I need to stress about with an aging car. That's the main reason I'm striping the tar, not for weight loss.

So wait, you are gonna strip all the paint off your floorboards and POR15 it?

                      POR 15 doesn't work on paint, y'know.

Nucking futz, man. Make damn sure you are well ventilated, as the fumes are deadly.

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

what if he plans to bring it down to the metal?

Well then the POR15 would stick, but it is a metal treatment, not a paint treatment.

Well, it is a metal treatment that stops rust on already rusting metal. However, i dont have any rust. I may choose to just paint over whats already there and using it like a waterproof topcoat or i may chemical strip, im up in the air about that right now.

I would leave the tar in the car. To be honest it isnt worth the trouble to pull it and the extra weight over the rear is nice for traction.
