    M30 engines, builds

New to this particular fourm, however not new to motorsport.
    I have had an E34 535i 5 speed manual
for the past year, great car, however gone under the knife
for financial reasons, but after seeing the potential of the M30 decided to do a few builds and tests. I have access to dozens of these motors, intakes, DME's and what not. After years of building domestics, thought it would be interesting to see what these motors have to offer. Access to a great dyno,
however I am still new to the BMW tuning scene, any suggestions on the best chips and stand alone fuel management for these engines? most say these are dinosaurs and not worth the time, I say otherwise. Anyway glad to be a part of this.

        Cool reading, bro.

In regards to chips for an m30, I hear a lot of good stuff about mark d chips.

Have you made a purchase from www.blunttech.com recently?

Mark D chips are VERY cheap in comparison. Not to mention I've yet to see one person not 110% satisfied if not thrilled, KillaCam. Give it a shot before you bash 'em or at least do your homework on what a chip actually costs.

You can always go MS, OP.

lol, crazy expensive? $250 must be like an entire months allowance for you?

OP, there are plug and play standalone options out there for 55pin motronic harnesses - megasquirt2 specificially. check out www.diyautotune.com.

Just throwing is out there but if you have access to a dyno one of Miller's WAR chips (http://www.millerperformancecars.com/war-chip.html) might not be a bad option. It is essentially a chip that you can rewrite yourself. Somewhere in between an aftermarket stand-alone and a chip tune. As far as waking up an m30? How about an S3.73 ;) haha. In all honestly there aren't parts that you are just going to bolt on to an m30 and make it a rocket ship.

is it a b34 or b35? if its the b34 then you can use the b35 harness and ecu to squeeze a few hp out. If it is a b34 you can also use the b35 cam which is technically fairly aggressive for the b34.

                            Pretty much this.

Though if you want to combine stock parts and stay normally aspirated for the moment, get the B35 short block (has flat top pistons) and use a B34 head (60cc chamber) which will result in a comp. ratio of approx 9.6/7 to 1, combine that with a decent cam and you will have a nice (cheap) 220hp M30.

Whatever you decide to do try to keep the beauty of the M30 in mind: simple, reliable, and huge torque.

You say you have access to dozens of these motors, does that mean you may eventually be willing to part with one of your successful test mules? ;)
