Shifter rebuild
Had the bushings and links replaced...it was getting sloppy!

Next step will be to lengthen the shifter rods to shorten the throw. But that project will have to wait until after the Mosport weekend.
Now, there's only the diff left to finish off. Should be able to pick up the car this weekend as planned. w00t!Leave a comment:

The head is definitely superior to the S14. Better flow and much stronger ("cup under" solid lifters, etc.). These engines were designed to spin to 8k rpm and make 270 hp in street trim. Race versions were designed to make 300+ hp at 10k rpm. The factory seriously detuned the street version by dropping the compression, putting in mild cams, revising the intake, retarding the timing, and dropping the rev limit to 6800 rpm. Apparently, it doesn't take much to get the 2.3L back into 245-250 hp at 7-8k rpm territory.Leave a comment:

Thanks for the info. I heared that these Cosworth heads were much more "agressive" design, like it flows quite more than the counterpart, the S14 engine.Leave a comment:

It's called "CIS" and it's a variant of K-Jet.
The race cars ran EFI and multiple throttle bodies, but the street cars were stuck with CIS and a single flapper throttle. The engines were also seriously detuned in street trim. All of this was to increase engine life and make the car more refined on the street, in keeping with Mercedes-Benz family values.Leave a comment:

What's the name on that fuel injection type? L Jetronic or something like that? How long last often that system before needs replace (and I bet is $$$$) ? Just curious.
Also, the DTM version ran Alpha N and electronic injectors? If so, I don't get it, why would Merc put mechanical injection in their production car and electronic injection in their DTM cars unlike BMW did with both race & street models using the know stuff.
Very cool project. Few of those 16v doen here, few US and other euro specs. Now that I remember, years back someone offered one of these cars to my dad for cheap, but he refused in the end because of the mechanical inj. system that is often very expensive, just like the e21 323i.Leave a comment:

Why not dye the covers black?I'm not too crazy about the color of the seats (I wanted black). But they're light, FIA-approved, and I got a good deal on them locally. They cleaned up pretty nicely: took them apart; checked for cracks; thoroughly cleaned the covers; and put them back together. Now they don't look half bad.Leave a comment:

AMG Momo steering wheel
Here's the steering wheel that's going in once the work is done...

It's a vintage AMG steering wheel made by Momo. These were used in the 190E DTM cars. Found one in great condition from a member on the 190rev forums.
