    Deer Slayer 2.0

Last summer my white car looked like this:

Then, in an instant it looked like this:

I saw the deer at the last second and didn't even have time blink before it went flying over my roof at 60 mph. In the long run I think I was better off not being able to slow down because a few mph less I would have been wearing deer guts. As it happened Bambi launched about 30' from the point of impact...

My car languished behind my shop for awhile while tried to make up my mind on what to do next and finally I lucked into a solid shell that my friend had bought as a project and given up on. It needed some minor bodywork but my body shop is great at the art of the upsell and before I knew it my new shell looked like this:

My S50 and Massive big brake kit was pushing the limits of my 215/45/16 Azenis so I figured it was time for an upgrade:

    Oh yeah, they'll fit..

    And thus it begins...

    Fuck you torn subframe...

When I pulled the S50 I discovered the stock motor mount tabs cannot handle the extra power and had begun to crack so tonight's project was to reinforce it and fix the cracks. Go easy, I've never welded anything before...

                Oh but we do!

There was body rot and languishing crash damage on the old body (it had been hit at least four times in the 7 years I had it) and I couldn't turn a blind eye on that if I was doing bodywork already. It would have been around $5000 to get it to the condition the new shell is in and that wouldn't have included the full repaint the red one is getting. Plus, it's rare I get the opportunity to have a shiny car...

Hmmmm. I think peerless should make you a deer-guard on the front of your car. You could weld it into the hood or something.

Could be but they are actually really nice for a first time welding anything. First time I welded anything I burnt the shit out of the welds and they were all sloppy and went from really big to really thin and then back again. Oh and fuck that s50, you just need a m20 and an ebay ;)
