there was a BMW M1 for sale on ebay a month ago.
and the r3v discussion on how cool it is.
i noticed it had a pretty cool sticker mounted in the bonnet area.
you can barley see it in the top right of this picture
here is a close up of it
I was at the socal vintage show last year and the organizer jeff and john handed out goody bags to each person as they drove in. one of the items was a replica of this same sticker that this m1 had.
it had been sitting in a box for a while but after seeing that minty m1 for sale i decided to put the sticker on the car, i hate stickers for the most part, but i decided to put it on the trunk lid.
looks like bmw could have picked this spot for it.

e30 motorwerks skidplate
My buddy Ian had purchased a race skids m20 skid plate from Enight,
i had the opportunity to look at the skid place up close with the car on a lift.
his e30 pretty low and the actual skid plate has a bend in it from bottoming out,
to say the least i was not impressed with the quality.
Robert Calhoun's shop e30 motorwerks is relativity close to where I live so i stopped by to check out the skid plates he offers, he had one on the shelf and i was pretty impressed.
I put an order in and made an appointment with his fabricator to have him weld it in.
the one on the shelf
grinded the paint on the frame to get good penetration on the weld.
driver side
passenger side
jeff one of the fabricators there welding it up.
all done
and down on the ground
this picture is deceiving but i can barely place my fist under the skid plate

rear parcel shelf modifications
So i had a non premium sound system,
i had the original stock round speakers ordered with my car from the factory, one of the 2 past owners of this car replaced the stock speakers with Pioneer speakers, i had no real reason to replace them except to get period correct modification/upgrades.
i also wanted to get rid of the middle seat's seat belt buckle receptical on the shelf since i was now running a 2 person e30 m3 rear seat.
I also wanted to try out Duplicolors fabric paint,
a member on here (GDA)used it on his shelf and i really liked the results.
Greg was nice enough to call me and just walk me through on how he did it. and i did it the same.
here is his build.
stock inside
stock outside
factory cut out the round hole, but they also help you out by marking the location of where the holes need to go for premium speakers,
(the shelf is laying on top of my seat thats what the yellow is)
all components removed from the shelf and it got prepped for modification,
Archie hooked me up with these premium speakers about 3 months ago for helping him sort something out on his m3.
they came complete with the;
housings
tweeters
wiring for the tweeters to plug into
the premium stock component speakers
the cover for the tweeter section and
the cover for the speaker section
my buddy Fred Larimer has a guy that can air brush the bmw premium sound logo on the covers and make them look like new.
so they will get sent out to him.
I mocked up the speakers to see where i had to trim it for the speakers to fit
the cut was rough, as it was very hard to cut through the shelf with the dikes, side cutters i used.
where the middle seat belt triangle was, it left an indentation in the shelf, i believed that the would still show once it was sprayed
i used this
and got the indentation to disappear.
i set up a little plastic on the floor of the garage and got it all cleaned up for paint.
came out ok, id like to do another one.
but im kinda picky
i kinda rushed it to get ready for bimmerfest
the cuts i made for the speaker aren't visible once the speakers are installed.
crappy picture of it mounted up in the car, with the flash on it didn't look right.
here is a different picture during daytime but on my phone.

For the past 3 years i have wanted to go to bimmerfest, and work has always gotten in the way. last year I was the owner of 2 e30's and still didn't make it.
