Your car is definitely one of my favorites. One of the few threads I'm subscribed to. It always gives me lots of great ideas and inspiration and I have the same trouble with my seats so I was happy to see pictures of exactly what's wrong. Keep up the good work!

previous owner bought a colder thermostat
75 Celsius factory spec is 80 Celsius.
I bought a new Wahler thermostat
why must i modify everything?
small hole to make bleeding the system easier.
i wanted to bypass the throttle body heater.
the 2 rubber hoses on the left side of the throttle body need to be disconnected and plugged into each other.
i found this laying around in my tool box
you need to link line A to line B
i chose to cut them and have them go in straight into one another.
spacer in the hose with a hose clamp and the same on the other side
now the hose goes straight from the thermostat to the back of the engine.
but now im left with these ugly unused ports on the throttle body
unplug everything in the way.
i got a extra one at the junkyard
and cut the fitting off of it.
old vs new
mixed up some jb weld
not 100 % happy with the results but i will get around to making another one perfectly smooth
I wanted it to look like nothing was ever there and nothing is missing.
A week after doing this modification the car started leaking coolant.
I figured it was where i put the spacer.
I popped the hood sure enough it was leaking right there.
so i bought a coolant hose that was long enough to run from the thermostat to the back of the block.
i plugged everything in.
i went to bleed the coolant and still had a leak:hitler:
i was just super pissed off.
under closer inspection the spider hose had a leak towards the bottom side which was dripping onto the throttle body heater hose.
the crack in the spider hose
new spider hose retails for 88
item number 13
11531722743
i found the source of this leak friday night.
sat morning i called my local dealer irvine bmw they said they didnt have it in stock, but they could get it by tuesday.
this being my daily driver i needed the hose right away.
I called sterling bmw and they didnt have it.
I called Crevier bmw and they had it. but they wanted 105 for it.
at irvine bmw they can get it for me for 55. I asked the parts guy if he could match there price.
he informed me that each dealer sets there own price and that the best he could do was 64 bucks.
as this was the same price as sterling i said lets for for it.
new hose
the new hose does not fit cars that have had the recall part installed.
there was a recall for e30 to install an additional thermostat before the heater core. and this hose plugs right into the heatercore so it needed some adjustment.
old vs new
the new ones needs a little trimming.
bmw uses this tape to go over where this clamp bolts down to keep it from chafing which i thought was pretty neat.
hose plugged into the heater core area, the thermostat, and the coolant reservoir
then to the bottom section of the airbox
i guess it just happened to be a coincidence that it started to leak in the same general area where i was working the weekend before.

i have about 65 subscriptions, just for future references.
I was kinda bummed to find that out about the seats but ended up being an easy fix. I want to replace the seat shocks too as they are worn out.
thanks

And long story short I had someone with a inferred thermometer take a temperature reading on the throtte body before and after bypasing the throttle body heater and HIS results were 44 degrees cooler after this little tweak.
Those where his results and I'm not argueing a ton of extra hp. I just like the idea of a little colder air going into the engine.

air freshner
I made these little mounts to hold a California car scents air freshner mounted underneath the seats and its out of sight but still easy to put in a new filter.
it just clips onto the carpet
there is also the air freshener behind the glove box
one hanging inside the passenger side sun visor
one in the tool kit in the trunk.
and yesterday at bimmerfest one of my e30 buddies gf complemented me on how good the car smells, so it works.

e30 m3 rear seat belt buckle
So since i replaced my rear seats for e30 m3 rear seats i need to do something about the seat belts.
main concern is safety.
i don't want rear seated passengers ejecting through the windshield in an accident.
i posted up a thread to gain some ideas on what to do.
someone suggested to buy an e30 m3 rear seat belt.
my friend kartek hooked me up with one for free.
you can see where there are dashes almost like perforations in the sound deadening of where the bolt hole should be.
on an e30 m3 thats exactly where it is.
im hoping structurally its just as strong on a regular e30 compared to an m3
buckles clipped into the recipticals, the eyelet lines up perfectly.
For bimmerfest i mocked up the seat belts and had it like this just for
show. im not allowing anyone to sit in the back till i figure what i want to do.

new switch
blackhawkimpact- sold me an early model window breaker switch.
quick an east transaction and fast shipping.
i put a temporary old blank switch with an alarm light.
it was easy to pop out because you could just pull on the light and not have to take the head unit out to push the back side of the switch out.
I had previously setup the wiring to be the right length to line up with the opening.
has a high rating and can hold up to some use.
left switch is the garage door opener
right switch is the kill switch to turn on and off the radar detector
i wish both switches were equally faded so i could see the white window outline
