I went to the junkyard this labor day weekend.
it was 50% off everything, I found a 1988 325I automatic with no crash damage, not sure why it was in the junkyard.
the engine bay was covered in oil gunk and grease.
A benefit from the car being automatic is that the subframe has lived an easier life and is less prone to engine mounts being pulled up on the passenger side and pushed down on the driver side.
A benefit of it being covered in grease there is a slightly better possibility of the subframe not having any rust. After degreasing it and thorough cleaning with carb cleaner, no rust woohoo!
fresh junkyard front subframe
all clean with motor mount and sway bar reinforcement plates mocked up
motor mount upper
motor mount lower

New Burr king belt grinder makes quick work on getting these reinforcement plates to fit properly.

Hey guys I got a limited slips diff in a 3.73 ratio but the weird part is that it came from an automatic. I thought all automatics came with a 4.10
Anyways. The output flanges turn in the same direction. So its good
I counted the amount of rotation form input on the diff to the output flange.
Scanned the vin and confirmed that the car has a factory limited slip.
the diff id tag has an S before the ratio number signifying that it's a limited slip
Factory stamp on top of the diff
Got some maintenance items.
Redline 75W90
Output flange seals and circlips
Rear diff cover gasket
Inside it's guts. No metal shavings when I drained the diff
No excessive wear pattern.

I just checked the back lash on my lsd diff, and I'm stoaked to find it to be only 0.003 thousands on the drive side of the ring gear and on the coast side of the ring gear.

I pressed the old bushing out.
New powerflex 70a durometer diff bushing.
I'm pretty impressed with the fit.
Nice tight press in fit.
Bushing is 2 parts with a sleeve and 2 big washers.
Thanks Bob(blackout) he took his bushing out of his prepped diff cover becuause I didn't have time to wait for shipping from powerflex. I'm trying to get this diff installed before the next autocross.
