my build thread, let me show it to you.

so i guess i'll make an actual build thread instead of using my original "hi i'm a newb to e30s" thread.

    day 1:

    parts galore:

doing the work myself so i can used the save money for my wheels: front end is completely done - steel braided brake lines, new controls arms, tie-rods, sway bar rubber & end links, calipers, discs, pads, hubs/bearings, and i think that's about it.

next: getting the rear finished in the next few days
I'd rather bag your mom than my car :D

Welcome! A word of advice, Clean those rotors off with brake clean, no oily/sticky substance should be on them. Its put on from the factory to keep rust free untill install and should be removed prior to use!

I would get some SEM Trim Black and do the grills around the lights, center grills are too black.

Some people bitch about it, but I freaking love pics of shit-tons of new parts. It's like Christmas for E30 dorks.

And if I might make a recommendation, get DupliColor trim paint instead of SEM. I think SEM might have changed their formula or gone with cheaper ingredients in their paint, because the last few times I've used just about any of their products, I've had problems, and I'm meticulous about surface prep. DupliColor trim paint is EXCELLENT stuff, and their spray nozzles are about the best of any rattle can I've seen. It's also MUCH easier to find, and cheaper.

I completely agree with this-when I did the shadowline and grills on the car in my sig, I started with SEM and for some reason it just didn't seem to 'act' right-so I picked up the Duplicolor trim and had no issues at all and seemed to be much easier to work with. Plus, in my area it is much easier to find at the local Autozone or Walmart.

new grills will be replacing those. i figured since everything else is new, why not some new grills all around as well.

Dude, is that your first sub-frame pull? Getting them out is the easy part, wait till you get to reinstall it for the first time.

yes, it is my first time. when i go to put it back in, i'll be doing it piece by piece. subframe and the pumpkin go in first and that will be followed by the control arms and the rest of the junk. won't be easy i'm sure, but with the tools i have available it shouldn't be as hard as time as you had. ;)

Yeah, I'm not sure what's easier. Complete subframe all at once or piece like piece how you are going to do it. I did mine complete because I was having a hard time getting tools to the trailing arms (didn't have exactly what I needed for the job). If you have the right tools that piece-by-piece route may be best.

Be sure to bolt up your diff mount as soon as you can. It will make life much easier for the 2 subframe mounts.

Looks like a fun build. Wish I had an e30 to work on again :(
