Just scored a UUC M5 flywheel on ebay. Putting the engine back together tomorrow.

Got the crossover pipe, valley pan, and rear main seal housing all torqued down today. Started pulling the chain guides out but then realized the TDC I had set it too was 180 degrees out. After alot of cussing I called it a day because the main chain had briefly slipped off the crank pulley and I'm not sure of it's original position now. I immediately went looking for my auto flywheel because my UUC unit does not have a notch for my crank lock. I must have thrown it away because I can't find the damn thing anywhere. No more updates until Tuesday when I bring home the timing blocks and a borrowed flywheel to get everything back in line. $&@$?$!!?$&

Finally got around to locking the cams and crank then removing the guide rails and chains.

This is a comparison of the upper tensioner guide rails. The wear is pretty severe on the left one but this engine was suprisingly quiet. The new is pictured on the right.

I just dropped my other tensioner o-ring and lost it so I'm calling it a night.

Edit: my lovely girlfriend found my o-ring. It's all back together now just gotta torque it all down tomorrow and then I can put my timing covers back on.

Whew. Done. With the exception of the waterpump and crank pulley.

wow, this build is awesome, is this setting you back a lot financially, or is it pretty doable?

You can do the swap for less than an s52 if you're saavy. No engine reseal/ rebuild...five speed trans etc. Just depends on what you want. The great part about these V8's is people are dumping 740's left and right for pocket lint. Im going to have a never ending supply of V8's!!

Where'd you get that? I love small purpose-built electronics like that. :)

I've been in contact with a guy in Germany that makes these. Took a while to get but well worth the trouble to make the stock tach work!

The 318 finally saw daylight for the first time since April '10. We loaded it on my friends super redneck equipment trailer and headed to the body shop. Updates soon!
