    Alpine II '92 325ic Slow Resto/Mod

I had this car for sale but the market won't support it at the moment unless it's a 5 speed so the wife and I elected to keep it.

Got it about 4 months ago now and it was already in pretty good shape appearance wise. I just washed, buffed, and waxed it to a pretty nice shine. I took the interior out and the wife detailed it very nicely... she loves to do interiors.:-D

I did have to find a head and rebuild it since the PO had let the timing belt go. I had it tanked and spec'd. I had a bunch of pics of the newly assembled head and the nice etching on the cylinder walls... but the SD card in the camera managed to become corrupted so I lost all of those. Suffice to say the engine now runs really well and is fairly quiet for an m20. A buddy said, "Ah there's definitely something wrong with it." I was like what are you talking about. His response, "it's too quiet." So I was happy with the engine outcome. I cleaned and painted everything of course while it was apart.

List of stuff done to the car:

    - Converted bulbs in OBC to LED's (stupid design)
    - Converted interior and trunk lights to LED
    - Complete head job
    - Timing belt/water pump job
    - Tune up (plugs, injectors, sea foam, oil change, coolant flush, o2 sensor, vacuum lines)
    - Replaced most bulbs
    - Fixed ridiculous wiring PO's mechanics had done to get bulbs working
    - Repaired poor wiring on Aux fan for condenser
    - Replaced faulty fuel pump that got gunked up after intake screen fell off in tank
    - Repainted rocker panels and rear valence black (Low Gloss Duplicolor)
    - Fixed rear top not opening/closing. Had to notch and move the motor because the gear teeth had been very slightly stripped on the motor. Moving it closer to the cog fixed the issue.
    - Pulled and refreshed hood heat shield. Also reglued it to the hood so that I can touch up my intake mani where it rubbed the white paint off.
    - Replaced hood shock with one that won't drop the hood on my head.
    - Replaced windshield washer reservoir and pump. Yay for functioning parts.

    Things on "to do" list:

    - New stereo, speakers, 10" sub, and amp install
    - New pads & rotors
    - New CA's and CAB's
    - New springs/shocks (lower of course)
    - MHW signals
    - Smiley's and 5k HID setup
    - Refresh cluster (odo gears, needle paint, etc)
    - New top
    - Fix tears in rear backseat

I'm sure that list will expand, but that's where it's at now. Below are pics of the latest work.

I know most of this is very mundane to everyone but I'm going to keep posting the UBER slow progress regardless.

    Done:
    - Fixed rear top not opening/closing. Had to notch and move the motor because the gear teeth had been very slightly stripped on the motor. Moving it closer to the cog fixed the issue.
    - Pulled and refreshed hood heat shield. Also reglued it to the hood so that I can touch up my intake mani where it rubbed the white paint off.
    - Replaced hood shock with one that won't drop the hood on my head.
    - Replaced windsield washer reservoir and pump. Yay for functioning parts.

More intensive updates will come soon. Ordering all my stereo stuff, control arms, bushings, springs, shocks/struts, tower mounts, hats, etc in the next few weeks. Possibly even a new set of wheels.

    First post done list updated.

I love this car. I was sooooo close to pulling the trigger when it was for sale last spring...

I like the white bits under the hood. What paint did you use?

So you pulled off the hood insulation and redyed it? Or?

Looks good. I like the simple restorations done.

Thanks... it's duplicolor engine (high heat) paint. If you prep well, it holds up decently.

The hood insulation was pulled and "redyed" with the duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint. That came out really nice and looks better than a brand new piece (they aren't as dark).

Thanks for the compliments everyone... will keep the updates coming when things happen.

@Mtriple - I had a lot of interest in the car but no one pulled the trigger on it. I guess the auto just kills a car on enthusiast boards. Worked out alright though as the wife can drive it and enjoys it. Now we just have to sell her eta.

The little touches like dying hood insulation that I enjoy. I'm all about little projects, keeps me busy.

Any prep work you did to dye it? I think mine is pretty clean, though.
