The Summer of 2010: S50B32 Project

I had some pictures posted up in the 24V swap thread but wanted to get together a better thread and start again.

History: I've had this car since new in 1989. It was my first car. I drove it pretty much daily until I finished college and moved to Dallas. Then I purchased several other cars in the last many years and kept her garaged. About 3 years ago, I decided to do a S52 swap. It went great. The guys down in Austin (Terry Sayther Auto) did a great job.

    Picture of the S52:

Now move ahead till early May 2010:
I've been thinking about the S50B32 for a while now and saw Karim had a thread selling some. I talked with him and eventually sourced a low mileage S50B32 with 6 speed trans. The transaction went great and the motor arrived in Austin with only a couple of custom delays. No problems with motor (Only my wallet:( )

During the swap, they installed Massive's Big Brake kit in the front, did a UUC stainless steel brake line upgrade, complete overhaul of the rear subframe with Camber/Toe adjustments to help get her back in alignment after the new suspension, and the Euro Headlight washer system.

    Here is the S50B32:

They experimented with several brake options (All Geo, 2002, etc), and finally settled on the Geo Booster with the E30 Master. Some mods had to be done to get her to fit, but the brakes feel great compared to the Geo booster/master setup. The E30 Master just clears the intake by a sliver. They kept the EWS system as is and installed without a problem.

Now here are some interior shots to go with the motor:

    New M Cluster:

    Creative Options New Seats:

The washer system was a little more complicated than we thought. After some more parts and wiring, its all in.
    Headlight washer system:

    ACS Dead Pedal:

Stereo got upgraded last year. Nice Kenwood head unit with IPOD, etc with Focal mains (powered by my old ADS amp) and a Fosgate amp for the sub.
    Trunk with sub:

    Side Shot:

Oil Cooler: Fits nicely at radiator. Still lets me have my oilpan gaurd installed.

    Exhaust: This sounds great!!

Misc stereo shot: (I love the cupholders!! Fits the Iphone nicely in the second holder)

    Video of her running:

The Stromung exhaust gives her a great sound!!

I just got her home last Friday and I can say that this is the best motor so far in the E30. It is a blast to drive!! So much more power than the S52. It wants to pull hard in every gear. My friend has a 335i and I surprised him on the tollway and got a car ahead before we slowed down. This motor is a Beast!! I cant imagine the AlphaN and Carbon intake upgrade!

I'll get her washed and waxed this week and take some better shots than the driveway. Thanks to Karim, Levent, Blunt (for parts), Nico for help with the washer kit install, Terry Sayther for the great install work, and Kevin for the great seats he puts together!!

Thanks for looking at my summer of 2010 project!!

Who re-stitched the steering wheel and if you don't mind me asking who much does that run?

Looks great except for the side skirts. I think mtech 2 skirts and door pods would finish it off nicely.

I'll get a swap write up done next week with parts used. It did not seem that much more complicated than S52 except for some fab work on trans mounts and brake booster. Exhaust clearance was tricky. Some minor bending and it barely clears. I'll get pics of that up.
