i had one new in 1989. Very fast but unsupported by Ford in the U.S. A copper tinted window took 4 weeks for the dealer to import from Germany. A new turbo took 6 weeks. If you're interested, i know where one is sitting in someone's drive way.....been there for years!

Awesome project. One of the guys at the shop next to us has 2 of them. One is a turbo with a 5 speed conversion and some mods and the other had a 5.3 fuel injected Chevy V8.

Man these are easy finds on craigslist, to bad most look like but. I test drove a few when they were new, they were dogs unfortunately due to poor turbo designs and low boost.

But I know the rock and the good ole 2.0 pinto engine handles tons of boost. Look forward to seeing the completed project. EST completion date?

Also there is a Merkur specialty shop in Planville CT that uses part of SCR's facility.

They really are. Helped a buddy way back when put together his Mustang SVO. Stock block held up past 20psi no issues. (except it started on fire a few weeks later. leaky injector)

check out the Ben Martinez Merkur that won DSP at the SCCA nationals last year, a good way to sort out suspension

It's a pretty sweet car! Changed my mind about my next autocross project. This is good advice indeed.

we now officially have spare parts for Merkurs...

getting excited about this project, first we will get the car running as is, will most likely be the daily for me as the e39 touring is going into its annual winter storage.

over the winter/spring we will either upgrade the turbo or just swap out the engine all together.:giggle:
