I wish mine came with an m42 i woulda gone the same route. Good luck man!

Maybe i didn't read it right, how do you use a m50 manifold on a 4 banger? cut and chop?

2" 1/2 piping to 3" IC is fine, all you need is the reducing silicone couplers and your good to go.
Need a Turbo manifold? We have them in stock- Click here---> http://rapidspoolindustries.com/

Yepp, chop the last two cylinder ports off, and cap the ends. Then you need a 45-50* adapter on top of that so the turbo doesn't hit the Valve Cover.

Love this, and followed your thread when you purchased car... looking forward to the end result and I knew the owner of your car before. I will be watching, and love what you have done so far.

Thanks! Here is a small update, just bought me one of these. $5 shipped from fleabay, also ordered the 3"-2.5" coupler for the intercooler. If I get all piping and couplers by this weekend, I think a test fit will be in order.

                  please don't use a junkyard turbo :(

do some research on compressor maps and find a modern (efficient!) turbo that suits your desired powerband. It's the same amount of basic work but you'll end up with a much more reliable, efficient and responsive setup than a turbo from some random junkyard car made 20 years ago.

awesome, can't wait to see it finished. I cheated and just bought a faster car and started modifying that to fulfill my need for speed.:)

I wouldn't just drop the Turbo in, I'd rebuild it :D I'm looking for something off a silvia or what not.

it's not that the turbo itself would be unreliable - but a turbo that is running outside it's efficiency range for your engine will run hotter and require more boost for the same power level. Hotter air at a higher pressure = less reliable. Since you are already doing all the other work, it doesn't really make sense to put a sub-optimal turbo in there - it's the heart of the whole setup.

Besides, almost all factory turbos are undersized and certainly anything 10 years old or more could not be considered modern. There is way more to turbo responsiveness than just putting a small one on there, that was 1990's thinking. :p

Buy some books and learn about compressor maps :D

there's always the standard corky bell book. I have another one that I really liked for certain aspects of modern turbo chargers, basically how they function at a basic level. I don't remember the name off hand though. It also had compressor maps for basically every modern turbo, very handy.

Would the book be called Maximum boost? On another note, I was considering picking up a 16g turbo.
