Finally had some time to get stuff together on the car. The motor will be all buttoned up once I put the valve cover back on. I sand blasted it and used VHT wrinkle finish. I always use that combo, and it turns out great.
I pulled the old oil pan also, and switched over the sump to the e34 and used the e34 pan also.
The coilovers are 100% done now too
I am starting to bolt the whole front end back together today so I can get it rolling. I have to hook up the e36 steering rack and all that good stuff. From there I am ready to drop the motor in! Keep posted.

So I had some time over the past couple days to start putting stuff back together. It kind of sucks having your work schedule controlled by the weather (this is pretty much all happening in a parking lot).
I got the rest of the gaskets put back onto the engine (v/c, rear main seal, etc). I also replaced the pilot bearing and made sure to seal all that stuff with a lb of RTV. I then put on the UUC flywheel and put on the new clutch. This is where things were a bit interesting. For some reason I didn't receive a clutch alignment tool, and I didn't realize till I was putting it all together on a Saturday night. So we ended up getting a stepped socket and using masking tape to get it to fit snug in the pilot bearing, and then taped the other side till it fit snug in the clutch. It worked perfectly.
I also got the e36 steering rack out of my M3 that I am parting and shifted over the e30 linkage and installed it. I am running no power steering, so I just clipped the hoses and will figure out a delete for the hoses on the rack soon. The iX booster is installed here too, but I am planning on removing it and making it fit a bit better. I am being told to bench bleed the MC before I put it in too, so I plan on doing that.
I got the rest of the suspension put back together in the front also. Just bolted up for the mean time. No real adjustments yet. I still need to figure out what camber and all that stuff I will be running. Test fitted the Borbet's so I can get an idea as to what tire size I need to pick up (came with 205/50/16... HUGE)
Nate was here helping, so we put the engine and tranny in. No space in the shop for it anymore! Might as well put it in the car right?
And the good shot next to Nate's car.
So far there have been no major surprises. Endless trips to the hardware store for random garbage that is a must have, but that is usual. I still have a ton of little things to get before this will be on the road driving.

For paper gaskets you should coat both sides with Gasgasinch.

Just my luck. I needed to pick up a lower gearing differential for my swap and one came up for sale fairly close to me. Emailed the guy, and before I know it, I was on my way to pick up a good condition 2.93 LSD for 150 bucks. Not to bad. Everything seems to spin freely, and there were no leaks. I took off the cover and cleaned everything up, and pressed in a new bushing.
I also got started on my rear suspension, then became side tracked when I realized I hadn't removed the trunk tar yet. I took it all out with a heat gun, then re-sprayed it black, so it didn't look to bad.
I also took my cluster apart and painted the needles red, and applied that alpina 'style' rev strip thing.

Well, just finished of school and am not on summer break. I was expecting to work on the e30 this whole week right off the bat but I ended up getting a new job out at UCSB in the Physics department so I had to work all week. I started to get some real work done on Saturday and got a bit done today. Kind of sucks having to work outside in the strong wind!
I got the differential and all of the rear suspension removed (aside from sub-frame and trailing arms). Put in the new 2.93 LSD, shocks, springs, adjusters, brakes, brake lines, wheel studs and cleaned a lot of stuff. I realized when it came time to fill the diff with some gear oil that I didn't have a pump to get the job done! Went to McGuyver mode and made one out of some tubing and a soap pump.
This is the first time I have seen the car down off jacks in... well months! And definitely the first time I have set it down with all the new suspension. The coils are definitely not dialed in at all. That is going to require some adjustments.
I am planning on finishing off the braking system tomorrow. I am installing a solid steering guibo and then I can install the booster and the remote reservoir for the MC.
