    OBC Install

Hi, guys. Newbie here. I wanted to ask the wise and experienced ones here on R3V about installing an 13-button OBC on my 89 325i. I got the OBC off of an 87 325i. What else do I need to install it? Do I need to convert anything? What are the steps to do this? Is there a thread for this that you can refer me too?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I have both vehicles with me, so any parts I need I can get.

    Thanks again.

I'm interested in knowing this, too! Hopefully some of the wiser R3V members can point us in the right direction!

Well, then let me direct you to the technical forum, and then the interior sub-forum.

if you go through my build thread towards the last couple pages i showed what needs to be done.

you need a coding chip for the late model style gas tank.

I did mine last week, Fred has a really good write-up.
However, buy a NEW light bar!! (or solder LEDs)
I waited till the install, and my monitor was dim as hell.
Now I'm forced to wait till my new light bar arrives, and I have to leave the harness unplugged.
Here are some pics I took that may help...

Thanks, I actually printed it out so i can take it out from the donor car and into my car. Hopefully it does not involve taking the whole dash out. Will it?

Oh no no man. Just pop your cluster out, knee-bolster, old obc, and slide your radio out a tiny bit. The harness (all one piece) isn't hard to run through. You can leave your old one in too, if it doesn't bother you.

Do I have to replace the turn signal stalk as well to install the OBC?
