Truly an inspirational thread. Told the fiancee last night I wont be sleeping tonight and brewed myself a nice pot of coffee and started with page one. Did not disappoint -
This as close as I have...

I used a water based stain, Espresso is the color. It's a really deep brown and then I top coated it with 5 coats of Marine Yacht Varnish from Fine Paints of Europe. They're pretty cool... people freak out when I tell them it's Hickory... they run their hand over it and can't believe it's really wood, lol...

Awesome stuff Garey. Would like to see a close up of the finish on your 100 year old counter top if you have one.Leave a comment:

Thanks man... yeah, me too. I'm always looking for better/cooler/faster/whatever ways of doing things. Having a full cabinet shop in my basement helps to make pretty much anything possible. The wife loves that part the most. She dreams it up and I make it...

Yay Gareys back!
House is looking nice, I like looking at home projects almost as much as I like looking at car projects.Leave a comment:

Okay, here are just a few...
What it looked like the day we closed on it. It's furthest to the left, but only half visible in the picture...

The "new" color the wifey picked front. Look closely and you can see her and my middle daughter raking leaves bottom left...

and back of the house. Big screened in porch which I have since redone...

Screened in porch after I redid it all...

Here's a few of the upstairs bathroom I made from an existing bedroom...

2 person Jacuzzi tub, walk in shower, double pedestal sinks, double oval mirrors, beadboard, subway tile and marble floors. Took me 2 months to build it...
And a few of the kitchen...

The kitchen is still nowhere near finished, but the amount of work in the kitchen is 20 fold what the bathroom was. I made all of the cabinetry, the counter tops are 100+ year old hickory, I custom made the range hood w/ a stainless fan and lights insert, all original casing is being used, but stripped to bare wood and refinished, all new plumbing, all new electric, gutted to the bare studs and insulated and drywalled plus a coffered ceiling and L-shaped eat-in island. Tons and tons of time. All the cabinets are maple carcasses and drawers and oak face frames and doors/drawer fronts. Everything is hand painted with Fine Paints of Europe Hollandlac paint for the white and Benjamin Moore for the blue...
So I've been busy... a little bit anyway. And this is like what... 15 pics? I have thousands covering everything I've done. Exhaustive, but I love doing the work, so it's been rewarding and fun, as well...:D:D:D

Thanks man, it's been a while, but it feels good to get back to everyone. I'm hoping that I can dedicate a little time to the car every week. The nice thing is I've built up some serious brownie points with the wife with all of the work I've done for her on the house, so it'll mostly be down to how much free time I can physically dedicate without running myself down. I'll have to resize some of the pics into photobucket, but I'll get a few up here in a bit. I have thousands of the home renovation work, but I'll just post a few...

Pre Labor Day bump......
Wait a minute....
This is my thread!!! Where the hell have I been?
Ah well, I did put the trickle charger on it over the weekend, so the battery would be charged up for first of the week. Now before you guys go getting all horny for a completion thread, just know that...
1. I am going to finish it
2. It may take a year given the amount of free time I have to dedicate to it
3. Everything is hunky-dory, I just took a small detour into Victorian Home Renovation Land, lol
Thanks for the cheers and jeers and for bumping this thread in hopes I would return...
I have...:):):)
