    DUBLSTUFD spring refresh project

Well as the days go on and the weather hopefully starts to get a little warmer it's time to start tackling some things on my cosmetic list. At the top was the engine bay and the front valence. The front was cracked pretty good when I got it, someone tried to temporarily fix it with rivets and glue but pretty much failed. I cleaned it up and painted it best I could for a while but I'm getting it properly repaired now.

After 10 hours of hand sanding 8 coats of paint off...

Taking to to be plastic welded hopefully this week.

Next up is the engine bay. The motor is covered in dreaded cosmoline and is pretty faded and not all that pretty to look at. I'm redoing the valve cover, air accumulator, power steering fluid reservoir, oil filter housing, strut brace and fan shroud. All in black/polished finish.

    Now:

I'm going to do it in pieces, don't want to take apart too much and screw myself over.

          NOPE..new tank. Bleach doesn't work.

If your really anal about it spray the inside of the tank w/ oven cleaner & let it sit. It'll take off a layer of film but the plastic is tarnished.

I'd like to look into replacing the tank altogether with a custom one, maybe something that fits more flush with the fender or behind the right headlight.

Yep, the subframe is spaced an inch down on blocks. Bump steer isn't really noticeable.

Finished the valve cover today, I don't have an oven big enough to fully cure the paint though so I'm just going to take it for a good drive when the snow melts and let the heat do it.

Also dropped the front valence off for a full refinish on Tuesday. The guy said they would be able to get it back to new condition by Monday. :)

                  And my tires showed up.

                  That's all for now.

Raxe, set the valve cover up in a box with a couple of good heat lamps on it for an hour or so, or do what I did when I did the valve cover on my M20, just go back and forth over it with a high-powered heat gun for about 30 minutes.

Good tip, thanks. I've got a nice heat gun at work I'll use on it. What exactly is the part that cures it, the cooling?

The heat will make the paint slightly tacky, and then as it cools, it will harden much more than just allowing it to air dry.
