    10 point roll cage install

It's been long over due to install a cage in this car and take it down the 1/4 mile.

This is my first attempt at installing a cage, I've read and looked at pictures so any advice would be great.

Ordered the 10 point from BD Racing, using DOM. Great company to deal with.
FedEx misplaced one of the main hoop support but no biggie Josh from BD Racing is sending out another one.

Here it is all laid out, kit comes with floor plates instructions plus the tubing ends pre notched, so there is less grinding.

Installing it right in front of my house under the porch since it's nice and flat.

Removed all the interior, basically just the front and back seats, the carpet has been gone for years.

Removed the sunroof slider also, it was rusted out, plus more room for the main hoop. Sunroof will be replaced later.

Scraped off a few pounds of tar from under the rear seat.

Installed an 11lbs Kirkey seat, had to modify the seat some and seat brackets. Local steel place cut 2 pieces of aluminum and bent a 90* on the bottom.

Preparing the floor for the main hoop.Didn't install the 6x6 plates yet as I might cut the floor to drop the cage through for final welding, so for now everything is just tacked in place and will be tigged later.

Here's the main hoop in place, fits very tight to the B pilar and almost an inch to the roof. Perfect fit.

Next was the rear strut. Drilled a small hole first and used fishing line tied to the main hoop to get the right location. Worked out good.

I wanted to place the rear of the bars over the springs but on the E30 they are to far into the wheel well so decided to place them over the diff frame support.

Fabbed up an additional diff support for more strength.

Main hoop cross brace fit perfect no grinding at all. Need to find out how high it has to be.

That's it for now. Next will be the top hoop, forward down struts, dash bar.
Dash board coming out to do this.

Nice work so far. Quick question, how did you determine where to punch thru the rear seat bulkhead?

You're TIGing the whole thing? Damn.

Your rear stays are exactly where ours are in the track car.

No full corner-to-corner tube in the main hoop?

                          Advice:
Skin your driver's door, roll the window down and see how much room you have to extend a NASCAR style door bar into it. The extra elbow room is VERY underrated.

Ours extends to the outer door skin, but you get the picture:

I totally agree, in the M5 track car jrhaile ended up with a bruised arm from hitting the padding even with the nascar style. I can't imagine if we didn't skin the doors and put it out there.
