3.15 is what BMW put behind that eng/trans i think.

S50s got 3.15s, S52s got 3.23s. Personally I would probably stick with a 2.93LSD. I don't like turning over 3500rpm at 80, and an S52 will easily have enough torque that you won't ever feel like you need lower gearing. Additionally, third gear with a 2.93 is just right for highway action and if you go with shorter gearing it becomes less useful.

You are wrong on that, I have sold 4 to date personally and OWN one currently. Unless you are talking about a 318i. Because the USA Spec had an optional 4.10 small case LSD. Came in the 318is models, and they are hard to find.

All the same, just if you get a diff from an E28 you have to switch the output flanges and the rear cover to a med e30 diff cover.

Get a 3.73... and a 6speed. You get the best of both of worlds ;)

But if using a ZF box 3.25S from an E28 is best IMO.

Does the 318is have a small case diff like other 4cyls? If so you will also need to change more than the diff when you swap ratios.

I bought it, had a shop half ass the install, then reinstalled myself. It's a 3.46 Unless you're recalling from when Rob had the car.

Running a 3.46 for my swapped car. It's not the best for highway cruising but I still get around 27mpg. Exhaust isn't too loud so I don't mind but I love the feel of it low end.
