RC, I am/was in love with your car and when I first got my e30 eight years ago, all I aspired to do was look exactly like yours. I don't remember whether you still own or have sold since then, but at the time, it was I thought, the perfect example of what an e30 should look like. Your pics on the railroad track are still some of my most favorite.

Since then, I've much opened my eyes and realized that everyone does not stick to the tried and true method of a OEM+ e30. While my car is not extravagant or "eye catching" as some, I always like to add my own individual flair to it.

While you may think it looks like shit, not everyone is in the same mindset as you. I personally like the way it offsets the white and it has nothing to do with leghumping, her being a girl, etc. I respect dedication and work put into something you love.

While you are absolutely entitled to your own opinion, as we all are, to say your opinion is helpful is absolutely arrogant. It is YOUR opinion. The fact that we are able to create what we like with a blank canvas is what keeps us unique. We also "mostly" know what is pure shit on these cars. This for one is not one of them, and will never be seen unless the car is on display with the hood popped at a show.

Jay, keep up the good work and you are an inspiration to me, as it has finally come time for my 318is to donate it's heart to a respectable e21 or 2002 in the near future. I've decided once I rip that out, it is getting rebuilt to a 2.1L stroker with possible FI that will go to a chassis of my choosing. As the saying goes, the best thing an e36 can ever do, is donate it's heart to an e30...I feel the same way about the m42 into above mentioned cars.

Someone could say you're being overly harsh on her, also. From a Moderator it's a bit much in my opinion. That said, the style isn't much for me but then again, 80% of the cars people go ape shit over on this forum lately haven't been "my style". I guess that's the clincher, huh? This. While I'm not planning to run out and paint my engine bay seafoom green or anything, I do find it fascinating what things are and aren't 'allowed' on E30s. It's like there's some self-appointed Style Police who think it's their duty to ride in and dog on other people's work. There really is more to life than MTech & BBS (although I like, & aspire to, both those things). In the end, if Jay likes it, then Kool & the Gang. Same as anyone else's mods to their own car. This shit makes we want to go get big flower stickers and put them in my engine bay, just to watch people get all apoplectic.

I understand that when you post a thread with pics & info about your car, you are inviting comments & criticism; it's just the tone of the criticisms that leave me scratching my head.

No, but we would be doing you a disservice if we all told you it looks "awesome" and "unique" like a bunch of testosterone-fueled sheep, and you didn't figure out it looked like shit until you put the motor back in and it was no longer easy to reverse.

This is a problem you will be facing for most of your younger years--attraction-fueled validation. You should thank the people who are honest with you. In my opinion, turquoise looks horrible and doesn't belong on any car any more than hot pink. There are better, more subtle ways of making your car unique.

And when you do, use two part auto paint with hardener. Like keedler said, theres too much traffic in there, it wont last with just cheap rattle can stuff.

Depends...my front acs apron was rattle canned, but it was prepped right and cleared with a high grade clear. It's held up better than many parts friends have had painted by pro shops. Two years later and little to no chips whatsoever.
