So today, strarted by pressure washing/degreasing the whiteblock, gearbox and the engine bay.
Determined the almost certain position of the motor.
Removed a shit ton of aluminum from the bellhousing so the flywheel ring gear will fit.
Cut the water pipe so i can shorten it.
Decided that i need to come up with 450 bucks to order the adapter plate and hardware, but i dont have 450 bucks
Decided i will be ditching the oilcooler on the pan in favor for some -AN fittings for fittings to an external oil cooler, the factory cooler would hit the subframe, unfortunatly.
Oil pan modifications is gonna be a real pain in the butt, i snapped some pics of clearance but they are on my buddies phone so i will post them when he sends me them.

    determined position

yes it clears, will still be raising up the res for a bit more clearance, just stoked to not have to deal with any shit on that side

    Thats all for now.

oh look what showed up today....

Looks like it will work out pretty good, gonna push the trans forward about 4-6in and extend the driveshaft and shift linkage, this will help with intake manifold clearance around the brake booster.

Oil pan is going to be an issue, room is tight down around the subframe, i was planning on having to make a custom pan and i definetly will have to but its going to be tight.
Motor mounts shouldnt be all that bad.

Need to email the company that makes the adapter plate to ask some questions then order the adapter and bolt the trans up, im having a hard time picturing how this will work, but im sure it will.

Well i never actually did the s/m50 swap, i had an m50b25nv out of an e36 but still had to aquire all the other parts to swap it and then even after all that i new i wouldnt be happy with NA, so i would end up boosting it.

I know the 5cyl volvo motors very well, and have alot of experience with them, a few other things persuaded me like:
    -all alloy motor
    -factory turbo
-capable of my goals without needing internals (350-400whp)
    -sound freaking amazing
-no one has done it before
    -smaller than the 6cylinders

all in all, after my buddy mentioned the idea of wanting to swap one into his porsche 944 it got me thinking and i didnt stop thinking and before i knew it i just couldnt say no.
My volvo was my baby for about 4 years and the last two of which i ran a big turbo and standalone ems and learned to love the motor more than anything and i think deep down this is a way for me to justify parting out that car which i regret every single day

Now that is said. Why would you use it? intrerested to know why...

KLRacing.se, a company in sweden, they make an adapter plate for the 5cyl to mate up to a g260/6 out of a 535i.
Sold my m50 today( thanks keith!)

Buying the volvo motor tommorow so i should have it sitting at home waiting for me when i get home from work. So tommorow night i will hang it in the engine bay and see what im up for.

Whodwho makes a nice plug and play setup. Megasquirt is megasquirt, tuning is going to be the same either way, his setup just allows an easy clean install, I've heard nothing but good things about it. I liked my megasquirt but there were a few things I didn't like, the connectors were not ideal for its application, and it didn't support sequential injection, but they are very capable especially for the money, and since whodwho makes a pnp setup it makes it a good choice for these cars. Standalone will keep you occupied for a while, play around with it your self, do some street tuning and get to know the system, then when you want to make some power have a tuner play with it. Its amazing how much you will learn from playing with a standalone system, lots of fun!

you just said it right there. For some reason I thought I would have to wait until the turbo to start messin with standalone. That would be a great way to start of. i heard theres a guy whodwho or somethin that puts together some MS package and makes it easy to understand. im still hearing both sides of the story. slowly but its starting to piece together.

Thanks for sharing your opinion bruh
