Little update. I have been out to see the car but both weekends ended up getting borked because of some BS. Got the rear valance pretty cleaned up ready to weld on a month ago and removed all the BMW goop where I will be welding it up on the body a couple of weeks ago.

This weekend was mainly to get the rear bumper shortened, fiber glassed, and ready to paint. Also the hope was to get the valance welded...but not likely to happen.

So here are the pics, mockup and fiber work. Mockup was mainly to check for the gap and the slots I made for the bumper shocks. I think the OEM gap is a little bigger and I am not sure if I will drop it down or not. Alex (iwantspeed) said he liked it at the height its at now. Let me know what you guys think.









Some fiber work. I only put down the first of 4 layers...wanted this to cure and will add more tomorrow tills its nice and strong. Also took a tip from Janderson about using the stir sticks as a brace, worked perfectly. I noticed on Janderson's conversion he kept the inner brackets from the bumper. I didn't see the need for them other than perhaps strength and we aren't even using the brackets that they hooked into. So for the sake of simplifying things, I cut those brackets out and wont be using them.

Another update. Lucky for me the fiberglass didn't stick to the plastic at all. I applied it two more times after that, let it sit overnight and it still peeled off like I was making a mold.



Also mentioned in Janderson's build was this plastic weld to fill the cracks with. So I had that laying around and decided to use that instead of the resin and throw in some fiber glass for strength. Boy what a difference. I plan on laying a couple more layers of fiberglass with regular resin over the plastic welded base.





Since the plastic weld worked so well and quickly, I had time to mock up the bumper one last time to get the valance lined up to weld. Low and behold there was enough time.





Took all the rest of the undercoating off of that area so I can paint in the morning.

Nice work! Same thing happened to me when I tried fiberglassing my trim.

It really doesn't stick! Very frustrating.

Thanks. I really appreciate it. Yeah the whole family was kind of getting in on the fun of restoring the BMW and I was extremely excited about getting all the goodies into the car.

With the S54, e46 5-lug retrofit, cage, RS's...it would have been a fun car to drive and look at. Im sure there will be another one if/when I have time.
