Mounts are made of mostly 1/4" steel. I could have used mig and cut with the plasma. We have a miller 220v plasma machine thats rated for up to 5/8 steel. There's more then one way to skin a cat.

Not to be rude, but the whole thing looks, sloppy and messy.

I have to agree. Not to say they won't do the job, but seriously, it isn't much more work to make them look good as well as. And frankly, your welds are sub par. If they weren't overkill as far as the size of the bead you put down, I'd worry about strength.

Making them out of 3/16" and MIG welding them would make them look a lot better and not so hacked. After all, you could probably use 1/8" plate and end up ripping the rubber mounts long before you bent/broke the metal arms.

Props for putting them together though. Most guys would love to be able to do this kind of thing.

I agree they are not the most beautiful mounts especially since they haven't been cleaned up and painted but I have no doubt of their structural integrity. I like the criticism and I welcome advice on how to make them better. This was my first time making them and I want to try to make them better each time. Ill try and post pics of the finished product in 2 weeks when I get back from school.

Just looking at the first few pictures I thought to myself "wow this guy must work in the navy and be used to welding 1" plate" sure enough...ship pictures followed for gods sakes man, be a tad more precise.
