Hey, NOTHING is a GOOD price! :p
So, this is like a Marvel Universe Cross-over... Jeremy Salenius' M50 build thread is inextricably linked to mine at this point. In preparation for the arrival of the S52 engine, I had to remove the M50 that currently calls Lilo's engine bay home. At the same time, Jeremy was figuring what engine to use for BEWST in the SM class next year, and we negotiated a price. The M50 became his!
So, Jeremy came over tonight so we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Metaphorically speaking. No animals were harmed in the making of this thread.

M50 out of Lilo

Time for some serious elbow grease! Thinking seriously about shaving the bay. She won't run ABS, A/C or a windshield wiper reservoir...

...and, thanks to the magic of Photoshop, here's what Lilo would look like painted Henna! Droooooollllll...

And our buddy Jason dropped by tonight with his new toy; a VERY tasty E28!!
I love the street where I live, and our driveway. It's easy to see when I'm out there wrenching, and I love it when people see that and drop by to hang!
Tomorrow will see lots and lots of cleaning up of Lilo. Probably.

Today was beautiful outside, so I decided to get some cleaning done on Lilo. This was just the first of many cleanings, to start to get some of the past several years worth of mung off of her (she'd been sitting outside by some woods for some time).

Front valence cleaned up some. (Don't think the diving boards are EVER going back on. In February I will be on the hunt for a set of Euro bumpers.)

Heh, thanks for the kind words, man. Just wait until I get out the toothbrushes...this really was just a cursory clean, and a rust-hunting expidition. Thankfully, there's not too much that needs attention in that regard!
The more I work on this car, the more I want to make her pefect, I mean REALLY perfect, and just let my OCD go wild and do its' thing. ;)
We shall see what develops when I pick up the S52 next weekend...Last edited by kingston; 11-15-2011, 08:57 AM. The main fundamental advantage of the 5-lug IMO is the 2-piece front spindles. You can get roll center spacers and bump steer reduction kits that aren't available for the 4 lug suspension. Otherwise, ASTs + Massive kit >>> 5 lug.Which part? 5-lug setup? That would be cool, but I can't quite justify it... Aside from having a better choice of wheels, I just don't see the benefit. I'm looking into AST suspension, and that's going to be soooo much better than stock M3 stuff...
Or do you mean bodywork? I think that's YOUR territory!!paint sucksComment

Wh33lhop, this is really good info. Thank you for your post! At this point, I guess if I fell into a great setup for the 5 lug stuff, I might do it. But as I'd also have to add the expense of new wheels, I just don't know that I can bring myself to do it.
How significant a difference is this for a car that will see some time as an Auto-X/HPDE car? Night-and-day kinda difference? I would love to have some people chime in on this!!‘Tis by the grace of God that my cars run!Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

I dont think it would make enough difference for you to justify it on your terms right now. However how do you justify any mods to a car? To a normal person thats stupid. To all the people on here, GO NUTS!Dare 2 Dream Motorsports

My honest opinion on the 5 lug setup. NOT WORTH IT. Other than a selection of rims, its not meant for an e30. My ride blows ass and i have all new parts from front to back. full m3 front end with 318ti rears. Shits gay and would rather rock some shit xxr's and break em than consistantly buy bmw rims. AND on top of that, not very many rims that i have owned clear the m3 front brakes so you have to rock 17s.... i got lucky with my style 5's being 16x8 et23...Comment

No, you don't. And that's why your shit always breaks, douchebag. I didn't have this level of patience with Siobhan, but I can take my time with Lilo. The shell is really clean and it doesn't seem to need too much in the way of rust repair (from what I've found SO FAR), but I figure I might as well do this right!
Thanks, Mike - now get cracking!!!! Do something every day, even if it's something minor. Helps to keep motivation up!
Yeah, this is a tough one for me for the simple fact that I don't have any info about how significant a difference the suspension setup would be with the bump steer kits. Obviously, they exist for a reason, but is that reason something that will only present itself in a 10/10th situation?
Need more data!!
Mike, now that you have the 5-lug, you don't like it? Are you saying that it doesn't perform significantly better than the old setup, or that it does, but not enough to justify the cost? You drift the car, right? Have you tried the bump-steer correction spacers? My honest opinion on the 5 lug setup. NOT WORTH IT. Other than a selection of rims, its not meant for an e30. He's talking about e30M3 stuff. Front strut tubes are not cheap if you can find them, but well worth the money if your planning on getting very serious with your build.
I'm assuming that you installed e36 components in the front of your car?My honest opinion on the 5 lug setup. NOT WORTH IT. Other than a selection of rims, its not meant for an e30.
