We scored a bottom end from KenC, a full professionally-assmebled bottom end that had apparently sprung some leaks. He was getting rid of the car, so he let it go cheap.
Absolutely gorgeous machine work had about 5,000 miles on it since the rebuild. Ken hooked us up with a ton of goodies too, a set of fully rebuilt Mustang injectors, a bunch of gaskets, very clean cam sprockets, lots of stuff.
Somewhere, Martin came up with a absolute crap block with a very nice clean head. We sent the head to a local machine shop and had everything torn down, tested and inspected with hand lapped valves and fresh seals. It is just incredible what Highlands East does for the money.
So, the crap block had a nice fresh chain, because the old one tried to eat through the timing cover. They screwed up on the left chain guide and a few other things, so now it has all nice fresh guides, a great tensioner, a new oil pump, all fresh seals and gaskets. Should be fine for years and years.
It isn't perfect, but it is pretty decent. I hope Martin can find the time to get all the cosmoline off, the bay is very clean everywhere and there should be zero leakage anywhere.
I sure do wish the dirthead who built the car Martin ended up buying were around to see what his hackery took to fix. Hell, it could have been 10 years ago, but this car has been through hell. Hopefully, it will turn into a wonderful daily for him, it fits him so well.
